Hi all, need some help if poss. Was lucky enough.. maybe ;) to get some new Tsudo coilover springs off a mate of mine super cheap.

Now i`v lowerd an Astra Gsi before using a Spax road kit but never used coilover type springs before

The ones i have look abit like these:

Now been trying to find some info about installing coilovers on a celica and havent found much. Been some talk of making sure you use a top mount bearing

instead of the rubber mount you get with it, this true and make sence to anyone? Was wondering it they be ok with the stock shocks too.

Many thanks for any help on this.

It looks like your fitting adjustable springs. The Gen 6 are all coil overs as such.

Its a good idea to fir a new bearing/top mount as you are down that far, your old ones will be worn and you will be putting them under new pressure after you disturb them. It makes good sense if you got the cash but you only need to change them if they are excessively worn.

You get a strut insert for the gen 6, if your srings are uprated again you will be putting tighter pressure on the old insert and changing their ride hide. You only need to change then if they are bust, but again if you got the cash and your down that far. Mind you the inserts can be tight to get out. I had to borrow some very large stiltsons.

Thats great thanks for the reply  I have a knocking noise coming from the back so thorght i might as well

fit these while im investigating. Will have to check the top mounts and strut insert too like you say. I am trying to get my head round how the threaded

inner collar fits to the shock, i can see 3 grub screws, what are the grub screws for? Sorry this kit didn't

have an instructions with it. Has 3 types of o-ring, 8 of each type lol nightmare :D Am hoping it will become clear when i have the shocks off the car.

  • 3 months later...

Just got coilovers fitted at the weekend, very similar to the ones pictured above only they have 2 locks on the aluminium tube....

Car is now 3 inches HIGHER!! :o

Fully qualified mechanic fit them but my boyfriend reckons the locks should be down at the bottom of the aluminium tube and not tightened as tight as they can go half way up the tube.

Any help or suggestions PLEASE? Feel like I'm driving a 4x4 not a sexy celica :(
