Ok folks I have bought this bad boy for seriously little money

it is a Jap Import so I do need advice

I have a cracked pipe

Close Up

What is this pipe, serious? Samco Kit Available? Where? How Much?

Secondly

timing-belt.jpg

Change timing belt just to be on the safe side, 62000 miles or 100km is on the clock

celica.jpg

Thats her there

Also please suggest mods, that would take it up to around 250 - 280 BHP.

I am thinking:

Blitz Nur Spec Exhaust System

Unichip to get rid of the 112mph and some more power

DV26 Baileys Dump Valve, anything else I should be thinking of?

I also have a tear in the Dash above the Centre console was wondering is there any UK firms that do gauge housing for the dash?

You need to open the cam belt cover up and see what is going on with the belt and pulleys, the pipe im sure you could ask someone who is breaking a st185 for the pipe wouldn;t cost much i don;t think you are going to lose any power the crack. At the same time try and get an induction kit for it. This damn car seems to grow on me more everytime i see it

I'll get the timing belt case up to see whats going on ;)

I have no idea about suspension for your car, i would think so as it is a popular car to modify i got some D2 suspension for mine it isnt the best its a very hard ride but body roll is minimal and cornering is brilliant, roundabouts beware. I have lowered mine it sits really low at the moment i should really take it back up maybe an inch, I suppose on the up side it has slowed me down a bit so i take more care with my car but once i find some nice smooth roads then i can open it up.

the pipe that you say is split is an air intake pipe an what alot of st185 owners do is move the Battery tray an bring the air filter further foward an sort swap where the Battery an air box are so you will need to change all the pipes anyway it isnt hard an if your planning n putting a relief valve in then you will need to take the pipe off anyway to get access to the turbo pipes

the relief valves off eBay work really well trust me i know as im running 1 an they make a hell of a difference to the boost,

an if i was you i would replace the cambelt anyway i always do when i get a new car as you dont know when the person really had it done alot of people say they have just to get a sale so better to be safe than sorry

i have a k&n but havent swaped the Battery over yet as i havent had time

an i know what you mean about smile on your face when your driving it an trust me with a few very in-expensive mods they go hell of alot quicker

i havent lowered mine but have stuck a set of 16`s on it an i think it sits just right an they corner really well anyway so the lowering just doesnt seem needed in my opinion it would be more for looks than handeling

congrat's on the purchace. you can get a standard samco replacement for your intake from fennies (fensport) you'll find the car will run better with that alone as there is unmetered air getting into your engine from that crack, good thing these cars run rich! lol.

if it's a bleed valve DON'T buy one, if your going to use a mechanical boost controller use a relief valve, they are alot more relyable and have alot more control.

you might fiind using a balieys DV your car starts to misbehaive, i dont recognise the model you've mentioned and cant be bothered googling it but you'd be better off getting an HKS SSQV replica off of e-bay approx£70 last time i checked.

if your going to replace the timing belt replace all the bearings in there as well as it may just be a worn bearing in there that your hearing.

word to the wise, try not to go above 0.9 bar untill you replace the standard paper head gasket with a metal one as it'll just blow

No boost planned until the mechanics are finished with, which includes a gasket replacement

I just found out that my car is the Normal Body GT-Four Rally Edition (Go Me lol)

Cheers for the advice

A dv26 Baileys should be fine as its twin piston, if you use a single piston valve then you'll experiance difficulties.

the pipe that you say is split is an air intake pipe an what alot of st185 owners do is move the battery tray an bring the air filter further foward an sort swap where the battery an air box are so you will need to change all the pipes anyway

Straight intake is a good idea, looks something like this (I really need to get a cold airbox made up!!)

The alloy intake pipe and Samco joiner off the turbo comes from Mr.Barry off the GT4OC.

I then sourced some Samco hose and the biggest filter I could find!!

Sounds immense on boost ;)

No it sounds like an F15 until you let off the throttle and then it sounds like wastegate chatter or a pigeon as the missis would call it  :D

Must be a hell of a note from that beast lol

well it looks like first things first, fluids changed all over and then timing belts and head gasket, like the idea above, my cup of tea is that ;)
