Central Locking/alarm

Has anyone come across this before or have any ideas?

When I leave my car parked for a few hours and then go to unlock it with the keyfob nothing happens. The light on the keyfob lights up ok but the car does not unlock and the indicators do not flash. So I use the key to unlock the car and the alarm goes off. Put the keyfob in the ignition and start the car no problems. When I then leave the car it will lock fine and the alarm arms its self fine using the keyfob. I can then unlock it fine with the keyfob and everything seems ok. However, leave it for a few hours and the problem starts again where it wont unlock/disarm alarm.

I have changed the Battery in the key fob, I have also used the spare key fob, same issues.

Any ideas most welcome and thanks in advance. BTW my car is a 2008 model T4.

I have a 2006 T4 and have had no problems like this, my only gripe is that it isn't the 'full closure' type and therefore shuts any windows you may have left open when you press the button (my previous BMW did). I assume you've not done more than 60k in your 2008 car and it will therefore still be under warranty, so Toyota will certainly sort it out for you.

Welcome to the TOC forum by the way.

Thanks for the welcome :)

I have done 4k miles in the car so far so yes it is still under warranty. I was just hoping it was something silly that was wrong and I was missing it. Today it has been working ok so I will see how it goes.

Did you get two keyfobs when you bought the car? You should have two key fobs, was the problem the same with both of them?

I hope it keeps working OK for you.

Chris.

Yes I did get two keyfobs with the car and I have tried them both, same problem. I have also replaced batteries in them in case it was that.

I had a similar problem on my previous car an Avensis but only when I visited a mate in Essex. Other people living in that area had experienced problems as well. It turned out to be a radio mast. The locals got the mast owners to reduce the voltage of the mast and all is OK there now.

Have you got any masts or anything that could interfere with the key fob radio signal.

Does the problem only happen in one place or is it everywhere you go?

That's a good idea as it has been fine this weekend and only seems to play up when I park at work. If it happens today I will at least know it is where I am parking and not the car. Thanks for that :)
