was keeping up with no problems with an o4 plate audi a6 saloon 3.0 tdi last night, was quite impressed, and my vsc and trc was still on! was chasing him around the sub urban streets of west derby in liverpool, loved it. anyone had any similar experiences? I know a couple of us have had no problems keeping ctr's off for lower in the rev range

Had no problems keeping a chrysler 300 cc V6 firmly planted behind me in a drag.

Same with 3.0Ltr BMW 5 series. It has the twin tailpipes together and was de badged so it was either a 525d or 530d. I feel more included to say it was probably a 525d but i was hoping it was a 530d :D

I'm going to have too look for easier targets, my first drag was with an Audi Q7 3.0L Quattro, thought I would sail past it, unfortunatly not, I managed to hold on to his bumber till around 90 then he slowly pulled away. 2nd one against Civic Type R, I'd seen in earlier threads that people have actually pulled away, well not with my SR180, the type R over took me without to much effort. Final embaressment was with a Corsa VXR with 4 people on board again just pulled away . However I can confirm that the new Mondeo TDCI 138 was no match for the Auris. Will definitly be going for a chip once they have proven to cause no long term damage. Fed up getting wiped, but I suppose the Civic & the Corsa are ture hot hatches v's my oil burner

Please be aware that we do not like, or condone, any sort of racing on public roads.

Keep it to the track or keep it to yourself.

oh yes we all understand that :) well u shud be able to hold off a ctr until about, oooo 50mph then the ctr will overtake u, the q7 has the new 3.0 tdi v6 engine tht audi has done, the 3.0 tdi i was racing was the older 04 plate one. I have had off a corsa vxr i can confrim, however i do use v power diesel? do u urself? might shave off half a second on the 0-60 time. i tried racing my dads 645ci bmw but that ended badly. The only thing i could hear was his V8 roar infront of me and then like half a mile down the road lol

Well said but I would not worry to much as with what is claimed in this thread can not be true just look at the 0-60 times for the car involved. I think they go to bed dream a load of crap then post it here the next day.

Apologies to the mods

I've been a member here for some time now and don't want to break any rules or condone racing on the road.

I want to make clear that i don't race on the roads and i take it very seriously. What i will say is if the road is clear i do enjoy a bit of full throttle but it is always within the speed limits. Any encouter i mention here is a select few from the 2 years i have owned the car, its not like i do this everyday.

I have never partaken in pre-arrange racing or drags on public roads but i'm sure as others can appreciate car lovers do enjoy driving and i always do it as safely as i'm capable of and never put others at risk.

With regards to what i said about a type-r.

I didn't race him in the sense of thrashing it down roads. He was behind me as i went round a round about and onto a dual carriageway. The road ahead was clear so i pressed the throttle down in 3rd from 30-70 and he followed me. He probably didn't expect it so was in wrong gear or wound up as he saw me go. Upshot is he probably didn't expect it so started late and he was slowly catching me by 70 which was the limit.

I can accept the type-r is faster, its obvious by the power and weight and the fact that i drove one for a while but all i will say is the t180 can be a suprise.

Still if it wasn't for mileage i'd be in a type-r and giving very serious consideration to the new focus rs.

Now that I can believe and is about 100% spot on, the T180 is quick and does fool people because it does not look like a Hothatch or advertise the power in a big way, But again others on here think the T/SR180 is a pocket rocket etc, how wrong they are and like yourself I suggest they should try a test drive in one of these Hothatches before making childish comments about street racing these so called slower cars.

old skoo1 u cudnt have put my point any clearer

What that you street race or hold off as you put it, Judging by the post you posted above this is not in the same league of sensible information / opinion that old skoo1 posted, I quote above you have beat 2 cars and hold off 1 and ended badly racing against dad's bmw. I think you need to grow up and stop racing cars, is it any wonder people insurance is so high with hot heads like you racing (by your own admission) every car off the lights and then bragging about it here, or even worse start a topic like this one you started to brag about it. :(

To be very honest I hope you never get behind the wheel of a true hot hatch as in my opinion you will just smash it up and normally in the case of people like you a innocent person will be hurt or killed as well by your stupid childish driving. If you want to race your car do it on a track not a public road.

well it will make u happy tht i am insured on my dads 4.5 litre V8 petrol naturally aspirated bmw, as of two days ago actually. I apologise that sometimes i dont convey myself as clearly as i wish, i dont race cars, im not a chav, im actually a criminology graduate if u must know. I certainly wouldnt drag, the only time i did that was when i raced my dad from the lights (which was a very quiet road at half 12am). I just like to full throttle when comming from a roundabout or say when emerging from a bend or a corner. As you will see from my youtube vids i dont drive childish and my licence has no points on it and i have never been pulled by the police on the road ever! rant over

I got hit head on by someone going full throttle coming off a roundabout, they were going so fast they lost control and hit me head on..... my 9 month old Yaris was completely written off and I was very lucky to not have more serious injuries....

Turns out they were kids, too young for a licence, one of them had nicked his step-dads car for a bit of a joyride and decided to show off to his mates by driving like a loon.

That was almost 5 years ago now and I can safely say it's given me a hell of a lot of experience that I would never have gotten had I not had it. I'm thankful for that reason but not for the problems I still have because of it.

None of us are angels, we all have flaws and not giving into peer pressure is one lesson you learn with age & experience. Yeah it's really cool to have a fast flash car and be insured on your Dads BMW, but the next time you emerge from a bend or a corner and think about putting your foot down, just think about the potential danger. No car is infallible and neither are human beings.

And no, I'm not perfect, but I drive an Aygo so can only achieve a max speed of 35mph anyway.....

I think this thread has gone as far as it can.
