There is a lot of opinions on this so I thought a poll would be a good idea. I myself am very disappointed with the mpg to what I thought we would get.

I can't believe people are getting 30-35 average. I can't even get that if i tried my hardest.

I'd love to drive their cars to see if it really was the car...

I guess it's just your right hand side foot :P as I'm getting nearly 37 mpg on a 1.6 petrol engine without even trying! And I'm doing 90% city driving

33-35mpg in the SR180

42-45mpg in the megane 1.6 petrol

35-37mpg in my old 2.0 petrol clio.

Worst car Ive ever had for MPG is a diesel!!! And I defo drove the clio much harder than I drive this. Mainly as it was fun, I dont find the SR180 that rewarding to drive quickly the majority of the time. If its bone dry its ok.

I realise this thread started out as T180/SR180, but since others are stating different cars here's mine:

I'm getting about

39-43mpg out of 'M' reg 2.0L Cavalier

53-57mpg from my 2.0 D4D Auris

Just standard driving.

I mean't - no matter how hard i thrash it i can't get it to go below 35/36mpg. I get 40-45mpg

45-50mpg best over a tank and 54mpg on a long run, but that dropped to 49mpg for a tank.

nursing mine on a run down the m42 and m5 best I got was 44.9mpg, I filled up in mansfied drove to the m1 at 27 and went to swindon, did not go over 75 all the way and used the cruise control. What fuel do you use? It must be the mud flaps causing drag problems

Only if they are the same size as a barn door!!!

Flaps shouldnt cause any noticeable difference in drag or MPG at all.

i used to have mudflaps - i achieved 47mpg on my route home with them last year, regularly got 45 in the summer and up to 49 over the tank.

I removed them last month, no significant difference in MPG. I'd say that the car does get slightly more dirty as the standard small flaps do an ok job as they are but the flaps help more.

Infact i reset the MPG on way home tonight. Got 46.3mpg - it was higher until i hit bad traffic in town.

We have been getting 42 to 45 mpg on average??

I cant see why there is such a difference??

I reset it before I went away for 4 months with work and my wife was averaging 44 when I got home on wednesday!!!!

The best I have had so far was a trip yesterday upto Berwick from Lincoln and back where we averaged 47.

The only thing I can think we have done different to some comments is that when we bought the car I added a teflon oil additive to the engine ( slick 50 for diesels ) and I regularly put reddex fuel system cleaner through the tank ( at least every 10 tanks ).

To the people who are getting high MPG figures, What diesel do you use? It could be some fuels work better than others hence why some of us dont get as good an MPG

Filled the tank last night (asda as normal) and added some redx fuel system cleaner, will be interesting to see if the mpg improves. We had 37.2 average mpg over a tank when we filled up.

My Passat is very poor on Supermarket fuel, try it on Super Diesel or at least BP/Total and see what you get.

Different diesel??

Supermarkets are supplied by the main fuel producers in the UK like Philips Conoco and Total.

We tend to use a mix depends on who fills it up totals advanced diesel or bp's ultimate but if its me and big bobs budget diesel if it's her

  • 3 weeks later...

Toyota UK say 33 to 39 mpg is the norm for the T180 !

Happily, I no longer have the problem, I've got rid of mine !

That would be ConocoPhillips same company, Your right though most diesel distributed around the pumps is the same stuff with different additives.

Any more responses on this one ?

I'm really waiting to see if someone who drives normally gets anywhere near 50 mpg (not you old fossil, it sounds like you drive like Victor Meldrew !)

Come on

hah :)

You got the wrong end of the stick with my name, i'm actually a lot younger than you probably think. My name is nothing to do with my age.

Anyway, i don't drive like an old bloke, no need to justify it. Glad your happy with your alfa now, some people here do get pretty good MPG out of their t180. Some don't, accepted.

Best of luck

The Toyota replaced the Alfa. I had the Auris for four weeks, that was enough !
