hey guys,

ok, so the time has come to get some new tyres for the celica. after getting a puncture in the middle of sheffield at midnight last nite with a hour and half drive home to do i wasnt very impressed!!

just wondring what people reccommend on here for their celicas?

at the mo im using some 205/55/15 non branded tyres that came with the wheels.

just wondering what peoples thoughts/ experiences of tyres are really and what you would reccomend!?

my mrs uses toyo proxes on her yaris tsport and i used to use goodyear eagle f1's on my vrs, and they both seem pretty good, im just seeking further help i guess!!!

cheers guys!!

Mark

Everyone has their own personal favourite brand, I'm just going to recommend you spend as much as you can afford.

i have personnally used all kinds of tyres in my 23 years of driving, and never seemed to find 1 that was better than any others . especially in the dry - in the wet is another matter . i used nankangs on my st205 gt4 without issue , also on my st202 3sge, and these tyres are really cheap - soft compound summer tyre . my father put £120 a corner mitchellins on a ford granada and 2 days later was rammed in the boot by a 4x4 that didnt stop as well , car was written off - goodbye £480 's worth of rubber . ToYo proxies are supposedly a good all rounder = as mentioned buy what you think is sensible for the driving you do - pricewise. ;)

http://www.mytyres.co.uk/ has decent write ups , also prices are good if you know a tyre fitter .

Im currently running (very worn, to be replaced this weekend!) toyo proxes t1r 205/45/17 and they have great grip in the dry and wet, as said above they are a great all rounder and not very expensive but the sidewall seems quite soft when cornering so they are not very sharp as far as steering goes in my experience. I used to have a gsi corsa and put Pirelli pzeros on it which handled really well on the car but seemed to lack some traction off the line in the damp because you could spin in 3rd gear even! I'm still not sure what tyres i'll be getting this time and have been searching around for recommendations. A friend of mine seems to like Continental sports contact 3 however they cost quite a bit more than the toyos and wear fast. Another friend who has an evo 9 gt uses dunlop sp sport 9000 and says theyre great but they are more expensive again. Generally you get what you pay for!

Edit: Just found a good site Tyrereviews.co.uk

This rates the cheaper pzero nero tyres i talked about better than the t1rs. So there you go!

Also, if you want ANY tyre related info, or want to know ANYTHING about tyres, i highly recommend Car bibles and go to the (suprise suprise) wheel and tyre section. That site makes for good reading in any of those sections though, and has been very helpful to me for a long time.

nice one.. yeah i ended up getting some toyo proxes t1r's 205/55/15 in the end... seem to grip real well, but as you just mentioned, they do seem a lilttle sloppy when steering, thus probs due to the soft sidewalls. overall im pretty pleased with them... although ive only had them on since last friday and done a bit of motorway driving, and slight country roads.. nothing major tho as its been a bit wet and lots of radar guns kicking about!

ill see how they go... my mrs has had them on her yaris t sport and they've done her pretty well!

i suppose if id have had a bit more time to look for some i'd maybe have splashed out a bit more cash and gone for some a bit more expensive.. i.e the goodyear eagle f1's i had on my vRS as they were fantastic.

cheers for your help though guys!

oh, also if anyones interested.... i got my tyres from Camskill Performance . i order'd them at 10am last wed and they were on my doorstep by 11.30 the next day! and they only cost me £53 quid a corner, which i thought was pretty good!

all on all it cost me £70 a corner in total after paying delivery and to get them fitted and balanced!

now all i need is some new break pads/ discs!?!

cheers guys!
