Hello Guys

I am new to the MR2 and this site, but i must say both are great....

I have a 2000 MR-2 Mk3 and have been reading all the helpful tips and posts.

I have a couple of questions which there seems to be a few schools of thought on.

1 - Air Induction kit or quality panel sports filter?

2 - pre cats removel will this affect MOT?

3 - Mod chips - any good or just a way to shorten your engine life?

4 - any thing else go wrong on these? allready have the MAF sensor issue which this site quickly diagonsed.

Thanks

Andy

1. If you want noise, Induction kit, If you want better performance a good panel filter such as TRD is the best option... although the difference in performance will be very little.

2. Not in the UK, the pre-cats were put in place so that the car can pass the stricter American emissions tests, I don't know what the limits are in Luxembourgh.

3. Depends on the chip and the tuning, I had a Unichip which gave me an extra 15bhp or so, a good tune and the life of the engine should be fine. There are many different Mod Chips out there, another name for them is piggy back ECU.. I currently have an Emanage Ultimate which was installed as part of a turbo conversion.

4. O2 sensors can sometimes fail, but an easy fix. There aren't really anymore common faults that I know of (other than those mantioned) the best thing to do is check your oil on a VERY regular basis.. at LEAST once per week, more if possible, oil consumption is the first sign of magor problems with these engines, it's also worthwhile changing your oil every 4 or 5K miles.

Hope you enjoy your car.. brilliant fun in the sun
