New (but Old) Scot

I've just bought a grey Japanese imported RAV 4 (1995) with 11.5K miles on the clock, mainly to move my dog around. No handbook (garage promise one in due course) meantime I found the posts on the mysterious MAN and PWR wonderfully illuminating. You seem like a friendly bunch :toast:

Details (as far as I know them) 2ltr auto (no cruise control?) long wheel base 5-doors. Loved the RAV 4 as soon as I laid hands on it. Actually I was intending to buy a Pajero - I had one for 10 years, but the RAV 4 is a much nicer vehicle to be handled by a 70 year old Great Grandfather!

Hi Jim and welcome to TOC

Good luck with the new RAV !

Thank you very much. So far it has been a delight. I had read (somewhere) that on steep climbs it would shift gears hesitantly as it was underpowered. The car it replaces is a 3 litre, V6, 200 bhp Nissan QX Maxi, so I took it up a narrow twisting hill road. Not a moment's hesitation and I've no idea which 'mode' it was in but the OD was certainly on! Magic.

I would love to, but I am up to my eyeballs at the moment. :crybaby:

Just one day and I am in love all over again. I have this theory (I have lots of theories) that unless you love your car you have bought the wrong one. It is easy to place on the road and it feels so solid. I used to look down on 'soft roaders' from the commanding heights of my old Shogun - no ladder chassis - not a proper 4x4! Not that the Shogun ever let me down - until the day that the chassis rusted through. It was like putting an old dog to sleep.

The RAV 4 has been under-sealed, so I am looking forward to a long term relationship.
