Hi everyone,

Long time no see I know but I've been around every now and then.

Anyway, I've just bought myself one of these bike racks, http://my107.blogspot.com/2008/04/bike-rack.html , waiting for it to be delivered, should be here in a couple of days.

I need to wire up a socket for a lighting board so I'm looking for info about the wiring to the rear lights. I'm quite surprised that Google hasn't provided the answer like it has so many times before!!!

I'm sure someone around here has worked on their rear lights and has some tips they can share.

Ta very much

Thanks for that Adilmon.

Today was a good day, everything bolted on fairly quickly and I found a convenient grommet in the spare wheel bay to modify to get the wires inside. All it took was a minute with a pair of scissors and all was well.

It was easy to remove the plastic panel, just a screw and a clip followed by gentle but firm tugging. Removing the carpet bit made things a bit easier but wasn't really necessary.

On the left hand side there is even a very convenient earthing point right next to the light cluster, the one on the right is much higher up the wall and was too far away for my wire. Also both sides share the same cable so you can just wire everything up on one side, very handy.

There are 7 wires going into the cluster, as my lighting board only has indicators, tail light and brake lights I only had to use 4. I got my hands on the wiring diagrams and found out that the left indicator is yellow, right is green, fog light is black, tail light is brown, ground is white and reverse is red. I couldn't find the colour of the brake light wire anywhere but it was easy to work out as it was the only one left, the blue one.

Once everything was connected and tested the wires were secured with cable ties and everything put back and tidied up. The bike was plonked on the back and away I went for a test drive. Everything seems really secure and I didn't get any wobbling or shifting about while I was driving.

I took photos and a bit of video which I will post later.

Tom,

Sorry to intrude in your thread but can you tell me if you think the bike rack would take the weight of two mountain bikes?

Well the website says it takes 3 bikes, or 40kgs. I've only got one bike to test it with though.

I've just finished putting the finishing touches to a "How-to" video. Check it out here.
