What fuel consumption will I realistically expect please with careful pedal control on an 08 petrol Aygo. Is 70 m.p.g. a possibility ???

It's certainly been achieved by some members.... personally my highest has been 61mpg - a journey down the motorway to Kent and back...

Doing the daily commute I get 45mpg average, but it fluctuates (lots of stop start traffic), with motorway miles I can't see 70 mpg being that hard to achieve.... :)

I've managed over 70mpg on 2 tanks out of 120ish. Overall average over 45000 miles is 58.3mpg. I seem to get better mileage than most people posting on here despite not driving that slowly (floor it 1-2 times a day to overtake on A-roads, otherwise cruise along at the speed limit and try to anticipate traffic etc.) - there's a big thread somewhere. There are also a handful of aygos registered tracking fuel usage on www.fuelly.com - take a look there to see what people are getting.

Many thanks. Tried the Fuelly site; at first visit looks rather confusing, and gives the impression they are recording figures for Routemaster Reds !!!

Hi

IIRC there is annual fuel consupmtion type race which the Aygos won with 70-80s so it is possible but I think its a high mark for those doing every day driving, also not just your driving but any additional weight your carrying around has an effect, I emptied my boot the other day and seemed to have an equvialant and least a couple of slender people and none of it was needed. I think if you get 60 on average you are doing alright.

Anyone tried the not-quite-tailgating-an-HGV thing? It's part of the hypermiling technique for motorways. I've tried in my Civic, but I chickened out at being so close to something so... solid. :o

I regularly do this and it really DOES save on fuel; with the throttle pinned on one position

(not feathering it and monitored by the TPS-gauge on my ScanGaugeII) driving behind an

HGV, then going to the clear lane next to it with the throttle still at the same position allmost

instantly decreases economy. How much depends on my speed and that of the wind...

But it's not really comforting when you have another HGV tailgaiting you...

Useful to know that it does work. Probably a good idea I don't have SG, because - being a certified geek - I'd constantly be looking at all sorts of data :)

Yikes - like being the jam in a sandwich!

I was keeping about 30 meters distance from the lorry in front of me.

At 80kmh that's 70% of the minimal recommended distance.

The one behind me was about 10 meters from my rear bumper;

I couldn't even see the logo on the truck in my rearview mirror...

According to an item on Mythbusters at 30 meters

(100') economy can allredy increase by 11%!
