Hi to all...

My wife has just picked up a new 4.3 XTR for a pretty low price.... but now she wants the extras... ;)

We have a largish dog thats a bit clumsy and before she's allowed in the RAV the missus wants to know if we can put the bumber protection film on... But I'm wondering if it is OK to put this on the back bumbper with parking sensors already there ???

Will it fit...?? as the sensors are quite close to the top lip. ??

Also has anyone tried to put this film on.. I have seen the docs whcih say you need soapy water etc.. (sounds like a job for Mr Heriot).. but has anyone actually attmpted this themselves ??

I had the clear bumper film fitted by my dealer when new but it is only on the top surface and does not affect the four sensors at all, there is a black covered area on the top of the bumper which is out of sight when the door is shut. It was very expensive being part of the Toyota Protection Pack, I think it was called, and there are others area with patches of clear film fitted, this film is very tough.

If you can get a DIY kit it might be a better & much cheaper option, might be like cutting out a dress pattern so your wife might be best at that!

Best wishes, do let us all know how you go on.

Welcome to the club

We have a parts man called Parts-King who can send you the proper one at a discounted price.

I fitted one and it was a lot easier than I expected. You need to clean the bumper with paint restorer and try and get any little scratches out. The instructions say use a spray but take care because the one I had contained little bits of dirt that got trapped under it. After several goes at getting them out I finally got it fitted. I think next time I would just use a clean bucket or bowl. Get it absolutely soaking as the wetter it gets the more pliable it becomes then just put it in the required place and push all the bubbles out. It tells you in the instructions to fit it once but I can tell you mine was off and on about 10 times with lots of cussing "well that isn't straight"!!!

Hi

I also bought the genuine Toyota protection film for my 6 month old xtr and after a close look it does appear that the film will fold over the edge of bumper for aprox 20mm thus covering a bit of the parking sensors. It might be a case of cutting a bit out of the film to clear them. Why dont Toyota make a full hard plastic cover for the bumper like they do for the models with the spare wheel on rear door. There was talk on forum a while back as to whether that bumper guard could be modified (cut) to fit models like the xtr - Did anyone try it?

I made a paper template, and compared both bumpers which I reckon are the same shape/size at outer edge.

I never got round to getting the plastic trim to try it yet. Considered getting Kingo to place one on a Rav just

to double check my findings.

Yes the film will require cutting around the reversing sensors well at least mine is

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi,

This is my first post so hello to all of you.

I am picking up a new RAV4 XTR in 3 weeks time and one of the accessories I wanted was the rear bumper protector.

Not content with the plastic film and annoyed at the 'apparent' lack of a black or chrome one for the XTR (no spare) door, even as advised by my local dealer, I searched the web.

And lo and behold through the Toyota Technical Document site http://techdoc.toyota-europe.com/ I found 2 parts which apparently fit the bill. :yahoo:

I got my local dealer to order part # PZ415-X0523-00 as he agreed that on the description it looked a possibility. He has just phoned me as he got the part today and says it the exact part for the XTR bumper. He has even circulated a memo on the Toyota dealership intranet to notify everyone. Do these guys not even know their own business  :censor:

The part # PZ402-X0520-ZB is the chromed version of the same fitting protector.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures but hopefully I have managed to upload the pdf's correctly.PZ415_X0523_00.pdfPZ402_X0520_ZB.pdf

Hello and welcome.

That's spooky. I found the same thing last night when I was searching for a line drawing of a RAV [little project I'm experimenting with] and wondered if it would be suitable for those of us with 'bare' doors.

I found the leather handbrake handle and gaiter [another little project] by doing a search of the AIM list. Even Kingo our resident parts Guru didn't know about that one. RAV_Handbrake.pdf Just short of £100 if I remember correctly [for those RAV pimpers with plenty of dosh ;)]

I wonder if this part is meant for the facelift 4.3 model thats due in the UK in a few months - hence the 12/2008 model year at the front of the document.

Has anyone actually see the PZ415-X0523-00 part fitted.... does it sit flush next to the existing black plastic part (with the RAV4 logo on it) ???

That's the way I read it - for cars built after the given date [it does not appear in the list for 11/2005]

However, unless the rear bumper has been changed for the 'facelift' version, as the front has, then it would be reasonable to assume a fit to the original 4.3 rear bumper.

The installation guide does not show or refer to the black plastic part [the 11/2005 one shows that needing to be removed]

Perhaps our friends in Europe or the US could confirm whether the rear bumper is different on the facelift RAV?

Excuse the poor photo but here's the bumper protector I fitted. You take the little one off and replace it with this one, which completely covers the flat horizontal surface and just lips over a few mm. We have a golden retriever and this stops any scratch marks (because the paint's completely protected) NB The blue painted section you can see just to the rear of the "bumper plate" is a sports spoiler and is below the level of the plate.

It's PZ415-X0521-00

That's the same one I have for my 57 plate T180 - but I think it came as standard with the optional protection pack?

Robert6920, is this picture showing it on a RAV with or with the Spare on the back dooor ?

As the the tech doc .pdf for this part number says "only for bumpers with licence plate, NOT compatible with bumpers without licence plate"

Duh !! I've just noticed from your pic that the number plate is below - so you must have the spare on the back door....

Back to the search I guess.....One day the dog maybe allowed in the new RAV !!

Hi,

I haven't actually seen the part yet as my dealer ordered it for me while I am waiting for my new car.

As I said though, he phoned me to say he had taken it out to a RAV4 XTR (bare door) and said it is the correct part. It has a lip that goes over the edge of the bumper, without impacting on the parking sensors of the XTR.

The picture on the manual and his description of how it looks suggest a very slight gap between the existing (RAV4 logo) protector and this additional one, although not noticeable with the door closed.

I may go to my delaer and ask to see it laid on the bumper before I actually commit to buying it and getting it fitted to my new RAV.

Cheers

Sounds promising Gcm1403...

Please update us as soon as possible when you've seen it working (or NOT)...

My Dog will be most grateful...(it would much rather ride in a new RAV4 vs a 5 year old Seat Ibiza, and if I end up being made redundant then i'll be driving the Ibiza and I'd like it to stop smelling of dog sooner rather than later :-> )

cheers

Tadger, yor dog will be pleased.

Checked it out at the dealers tonight and it is made for the job, not surprisingly. Whether it is for the facelift 2009 model or not, the bumper must be identical because it fits perfectly. When the tailgate is closed you cannot see the gap between the existing and this one.

Looks a lot more substantial than the clear plastic film and offers a contrast with most colours for a professional finish. Also avilable in chrome finish as my earlier post shows.

I think this part has been missed by those RAV4 4.3 owners with bare door models.

Cheers gcm1403

I am sure he said £57, or something of that order anyway. ;)

A quick call to your local dealer with the part # and you'll know exactly.

Hi mate, can you clarify this. What year is your Rav and what year was the Rav your dealer went out and tried it on ?

Can you post up a photo of this part fitted ? According to Kingo, Toyota are still not listing this part for my year of

spareless XT-R.Not like Mr T to miss out like this

I'll try and get a photo and post it, if I remember.

It is the 2008/2009 XTR with the Chrome Grill, under-run protector, parking sensors etc.

I have the car now and it is fitted. Spot on.

In my initial post I gave the part numbers and pdf doc's I found on the Techdoc.toyota website. My dealer managed to find it in his system from the info. I gave him and ordered it. He was glad I did because he has sold a few and passed it on to fellow dealers, or so he told me at least.

Cheers.
