Sr 180 Pinking

my sr when i accelerate hard at about 40mph makes a very loud pinking sound from the top end. (similar to an old car with the timing out) the garage say's it'cant find out wrong . does or has anyone else expirianced this.

Cant say mine does. Do you mean tappety or proper old school pinking? What gear are you in when it happens?

Its something that us older motorists used to live with, but never neard of it in a diesel engine.

Could just be valve clatter when accelerating hard in too high a gear?

Sounds like a diesel knock prehaps? Had a few issues with injectors in the past on other diesels but not the T180. Main dealer diagnostic equipment should pick up on them if they are faulting.

sounds like valves clacking. but no power loss and it'll do it in any gear. but stops after about 3.5000 rpm.

Definately sounds like injector knock. Is it worse from cold? Does it ease off when its warm?
