Knocking?

Alright, Ive just recently noticed a knocking coming from the right side of the engine. I notice it mostly when in 1st gear, but i hear it in others too, especially when im driving past a wall. At low rev's <2000 its barely noticable. When i go above 2,500 it gets really noticeable. Car runs fine, except once and a while during boost it studders.(if im cruising in 3rd and decide to open her up it studders for a few seconds, if i floor it 0 - 90 no studder) Anyway, my friend said it might be a roller for the camshaft... anything else it could be? Im going to get my timing belt changed at toyota in a month, i think ill have them check it out if i cant figure it out. any ideas?

Does it get faster and slower as you rev?

Seems like it gets a litle bit faster, and as i rev higher it gets louder. I can only hear it between 2,500 and about 4,000 because i cant hear it over my exhuast.

Not quite sure what a knock sounds like but if i had to guess it definitly sounds more like a tic tic tic or clack clack clack then a knocking sound...

What would valve tapping sound like?? It sounds like its coming from the top... But then again when i stand by right side tire, i still hear it too... Well its going to toyota in a few weeks to get checked out, im sure it will last till then.... or hope!

Ok, took it to toyota for the timing belt... Pretty reasonable price of 700$ with all new seals, water pump, belts and labor... expected from the dealer. before they changed the belt, i had them investigate the knocking, didnt wanna waste 700$ if the engine was crap... Good news came, nothing internally wrong with the engine =-D Block wise the car is sound =-) The ticking was the idler pulleys and tensioner pulleys for the timing belt!! Thats why the ticking got faster and louder as i went up in rev's... and why i heard it from the top and right side of the engine! Since they're already in there its like 50$ Labor... but the damn parts came to 265$ for 3 pulleys! More good news is, they found my oil leak was coming from around the cams and the new seals will fix it.

So now with the engine sound, Im gonna rebuild the tranny... well since the trannys off might as well change the clutch. Well... to get the tranny out exhaust has to come off, so might as well rebuild the turbo. Well... since the turbo's off might as well get a new exhaust manifold port and polished... Pretty sure access to the 20$ Hose From hell is now available so might as well change that sucker out... Can you guys think of anything else to do while im in the area??? Any advice is great!!

Long story short... My engines not blown... yet :lol:
