hi,

when iv been driving in slow moving traffic my yaris suffers from clutch judder when pulling away in first. the juddering is intermittent really, gear change is smooth and clutch does not slip. my yaris has done 65k miles and has full history.

can anyone help? do i need a new clutch?

thanks Rob ;)

Chances are it probably is the clutch. Seen a few like this. Alot of people just live with it.

Hi Rob, my Sr does this every now and then. Usually when it's cold though.

As it only does it once in a blue moon (so to speak) i don't worry about it. ;)

ok thanks... iv been quoted £280 for a new clutch including fitting, does that seem reasonable? most of the garages i phoned have never changed a yaris clutch. B)

My CDX judders, not every time so I'm not too concerned,

£280 sounds ok to me but I haven't enquired...yet

£280 for everything seems ok to me too.

Does the car judder all the time, everyday?

I remember mine doing it quite a lot when i first bought it, looking back now, it might have been my fault because i wasn't used to the clutch after driving my other car all the time.

The wife drives our Yaris more than me and she says the clutch has never done this with her at the wheel.....Must be me then!!

Another thing, is the clutch slipping on it?

it does not slip at all.... it mainly judders when crawling in traffic on the motorway or in a que upto a junction in rush hour traffic. its when the engine gets hotter i suppose.

Hi my wifes 1.3 SR does this also, it seems to be a characteristic and is likely the clutch release bearing, hers judders when cold and can whine a little when hot from heavy traffic. While you can live with it I'd say a new clutch (Cover, plate and bearing) is imminant.

I just bought a new pattern clutch for my 1.5 Yaris T Sport from Motoquip/Motor Factors at Dunmow Essex for £100 + Vat and paid my usual mechanic £100 to fit it. It's been fine since so a similar part may save you a few quid over what you've been quoted (kind of depends on whether you have a good tame mechanic as well).

Good luck with it.

  • 2 weeks later...

ive had this same problem on mine. ive been told its nothing to worry about but it is really annoying mine does it when i am just about to come off the clutch at around 4-7mph or when having to use clutch control to crawl along. When you have got someone in the car with you it makes you feel like a rubbish driver.
