got the rav back today , it has had the dual mass flywheel , clutch , clutch plate , and release bearing replaced ( I had to pay for it thanks again Toyota for nothing ) ..anyway what a difference it has made the clutch is so much softer and the drive is now so smooth no more vibration at all ,, so I’m a happy bunny now going to have a few pints to celebrate , that if I can get any more money out the bank , mind you got the whole job done for £850 with a genuine Toyota flywheel made sure I got all the boxes from the parts , ohh one more thing I have got all the old parts just been checking the old flywheel and you would not believe the movement in it must move at least 100 mm in each direction so I can safely say it was knackered just want to know if I could up load a small video clip of the Broken flywheel to the site so people can get a good idea of what actually happens to the flywheel ,,,, thank again so much for all the help and advice I have had with this problem

:D :D :D :D :D :D

Glad you are sorted.

The best thing is to upload your movie into youtube and then post the link.

Cheers

I bet Toyota wish they had never put turbo diesels in their cars, all the complaints they will get about DMF failure at around 70k!

Who makes these parts? Peugeot? I know they make the power trains for Fords, but do they make them for Toyota too?

Well sort of - yes. They are made by Valeo (I have a genuine Toyota one sitting in my garage and it is marked "Valeo"). Valeo is a major supplier to the PSA Group so I suppose you could say there is a link. However, they probably make lots of other components for European built Toyotas like lighting and electrics as to be classified as European made they have to have quite a high (I think 80%) European content.

Having said that, don't forget that most other makes of cars with common rail diesels suffer with potential DMF failure at higher mileage. I understand one of the most troublesome is Mini which is part of the untouchable BMW group and the price of replacement is astronomic.

I just googled DMF - Mini and got;

Just think of a make and add DMF to your google search

When I got the new DMF, I experienced a big improvement on fuel economy. This was related to the possibility to drive at lower rpms comfortably. You might experience the same jibbbbbb :)
