Hi,

There are several ways, apparently, to program in a new key depending on which gen toyota you have. I have a 2001 toyota and at the moment the following method has not worked. I have only tried it once so I'll probably give it another go before I give up and try something else. The method I have been told is quite complicated but here goes...

1. Vehicle = key not inserted in the ignition, driver's door open and driver's door unlocked.

2. Insert the key into the ignition then pull it out.

3. Press the master door lock switch 5 times from lock back to unlock.

4. Close the driver's door then open it.

5. Repeat step #3

6. Now select one of the following modes by inserting the key into the ignition and turning it to the run or on position. The programming mode is determined by the number of times you go from "key off" to the "key on" position and back before pulling the key out.

A - 1 time = "Add" mode. Only used on some models and it allows you to add a remote to the already existing remotes. ECU confirms this by locking and unlocking the door automatically after you remove the key.

B - 2 times = "Erase all previous programmed remotes". ECU confirms this by locking and unlocking the door locks twice after you remove the key.

C - 3 times = "How many remotes are already programmed". ECU confirms this by locking and unlocking the door once for each remote programmed. If no remotes are programmed then the doors lock and unlock 5 times (this is because only a max of 4 remotes can be programmed at any one time).

7. Press the lock and unlock buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1.5 secs and then press either button by itself for 1 sec.

8. The ECU will perform lock and unlock automatically to confirm that the 1st remote is stored. Repeat step 7 immediately to program another remote if required.

9. Shut the drivers door and try all remotes.

I know this is long winded but I hope this helps.

:D

im pretty sure from my distant memory its 5 presses on the accelerator and 6 presses on the brake, instead of the pressing the unlock swith 5 times. i think that is onlywith land cruiser that that method is used.
