Traffic Wardens

Yesterday I parked my car outside my ex business, stuck my head in for a chat & went up the Street. It was parked , as I usually do there, on double yellows, on a corner & facing the wrong way up a one way street  3 of our wardens know me & my car. In fact one day I returned to find a ticket on my screen, opened it to find that all it said was "Hello Victor" :lol2:

However, coming back down the street I saw the 4th one @ my car. He is like a ferret & shows no mercy. I went up to him & said "It's a fair cop ". "Yes" said he, "It's a fair cop, but you are a decent man , so I'll let you off" He suggested that it would be a good idea if I moved, which I was about to anyway, & he pointed out that I was facing the wrong way & would have to reverse out [i always do]. He pointed out that that made 2 wrongs & I replied that 2 wrongs don't make a right. He laughed & said that in this case they made a left, as I had to swing left while reversing to suit the 1 way system. Off he went laughing.

The only explanation I can think of is that he has to put up with so much abuse & crap excuses, that for someone to admit that they were in the wrong was a pleasant change.

Today I parked in a parking space & paid my ticket

My Reply:

Dear Sirs,

Firstly I believe I was not involved in any advertised parking contravention.

Secondly I am disappointed that your first communication is the final reminder which therefore does not allow me to pay an early payment 50% discounted rate.

It may be that you are confusing the situation with powers granted to local authorities under the road traffic act, or it may be that you know full well the actual legal position and are seeking to obtain monies from me by misrepresentation.

Whichever is the case, I deny the amount you are claiming or indeed any amount whatsoever is due from you to me.

If you do not concur then I demand that you issue Court proceedings within 14 days or cease and desist from any further contact. Any such claim would be vigorously defended.

Any other form of contact whatsoever, whether by you or your agents, will be regarded as harassment and will be reported as such.

Yours Faithfully

So it took 1 hour and 45 minutes to purchase 6 small items? It might look to some that the driver came back to his car, saw the notice, and quickly went into the store to buy something to justify his parking there. I'm not accusing anyone of anything, I'm just saying.....

Blimey, i wish the traffic wardens ( now known as parking attendants, or PA.s for short ) were like that in london & the suburbs , if you had done that in london you would have been wheel clamped / towed , or both in minutes.

The Clampers in london are mercyless, on one occasion i was parked opposite an office block in Francis St Victoria, in my cab waiting for my customer who had popped in to drop off some paperwork, a car pulled up outside the office block, a man got out and went in, a clamping crew were parked arround the corner, obviously staking out the office waiting for just such an occurance, the man had been away from the car for just 15 seconds, the clamping crew rushed from their vehicle and the mans car was clamped in seconds, that poor man would probably have been relieved of a few hundred pounds, in order to have the clamp released... the incident left me with an utter feeling of disgust and contempt for the clampers.

In another incident involving myself, i had just dropped my son off at his school in Romford, and as always i briefly leave the car to see him safely across the road. On this particular occasion a traffic warden appeared , it looked like he was noting my registration as he crossed the road, within seconds he was at my windscreen noting my tax disc details, i swiftly returned to the car got in and drove off.

Now this was a few years ago when in order to make a parking ticket legally binding, it had to be placed on your car or handed to you, niether of which happened , so you can understand my surprise when some weeks later i get a " Notice TO Owner " stating that because i had not paid my parking ticket within the fisrt two weeks i now had to pay the increased fee of £80 . Needless to say i appealed against the ( phantom ) ticket because it had not been issued in accordance with the law, and indeed that in stating that the ticket had been placed, the warden had acted fraudulently.... To cut a long story short, i eventually won my appeal, but it just go's to show the lengths these mercyless swines will go to in order to relieve you of your hard earned cash.

Just in case you are not aware of the law as it now stands, parking tickets no longer have to be placed on your vehicle in order to make them legally binding,

Tickets can now be issued for parking offences by traffic wardens simply by taking a photograth of the illegally parked vehicle, and indeed many borough councils have now resorted to using Smart Cars with a camera mounted on a pole, on its roof, so be aware and try not to get caught .
