Drivers Side -front Wheel Arch - Underneath

hi,

just joined today, question for anyone who can help me- i drive a 2007 avensis strata 1.6 petrol saloon. ive had the car from new. after getting the car serviced from my dealer recently i noticed that undernath the front wheel arch on the drivers side that a plastic section of the front bumper was missing, its a slatted kind of part , the bumper was left loose and was shaking and is now out of shape compared to the passenger side which still has a the part and is perfect. i went back to the dealer with my query expecting the problem to be resolved. it was brought to my attention that on my particular car that there was never a part there in the first place, even though i explained how i had been maintaining and washing the car for the past two years! it was then explained to me that they only put this part on the left hand side on petrols and its on both sides on the diesels! but on 2008 models onwards they dont have them at all

My question is this- did i imagine there was a part or is my dealer fobbing me off?
