Tacho Won't Work 94

My son and I have just bought a hilux 1994 the previous owner had changed the engine and now the only thing not working is the tacho, please help ,Peter.

Look here for a wiring diagram http://forums.bauchan.org/portal/downloads.php not sure but I think it might come off the alternator.

Guessing your pickup is a 2.8 import if it had a rev counter? Was the replacement motor a UK 2.4? The tacho pickup on the 2.8 is on the injector pump which the 2.4 doesn't have - a few guys on the hilux pickup forum have had the same probs.
