you need...

Facia adapter FP-11-00

Harness Adapter PC9-406

Ahem, it's the PC9-406 for the 'active/superlive system'.

Or the PC2-17-4 for the non-active system.

And the DIN pocket is actually an FP-11-01.

Look Here

(ignoring the fact that it says Toyota Supra for the DIN pocket, just look at the pic)

How do I know if I have active speakers or not?

Pull up the lid of the storage compartment that's behind the passenger seat, if there's a sub in there then you have the active speaker system.

Jimlad, the FP-11-00, looking at the picture of one of these, I can't figure out how it works - I mean the hole in the top part doesn't look DIN shaped, so how does the headunit show though? *I is confused*

da da... like that.

Doesn't give 100% perfect fit into the dash, but I'm getting a double din unit v soon anyway.. so not that fussed. Will do for now.

Was quite tricky to get the stereo to sit flush.. had to drill holes.. then expand them a bit etc ( on the adapter ).. but got there in the end.

Drill holes?

My din pocket didnt require any faffing about...neither did the Stereo install??

Can you explain what you had to drill holes for?

The facia adapter was a universal unit.. meant for a few cars etc.

The holes on it didn't match up with the holes on the side of the stereo, so I drilled holes in the facia adapter to match those of the stereo.

Looks good Jim, I still don't understand how the top part of the fp-11-00 in the pic in the link I posted could allow a headunit to fit through.

Anyways, my DIN pocket isn't quite 100% flush, but 99% is good enough :)

I tried to look under the storage compatment but couldn't get into it... it was dark and raining though.... maybe I just had to pull harder!.... there is, however a storage box behind the driver seat with nothing in it.

It does need a bit of a tug to open it, but it will open.

Yes, all you need is the DIN pocket (FP-11-01) and the Harness Adapter Lead (PC2-17-4 for the NON-ACTIVE SPEAKER SYSTEM, or PC9-406 for the ACTIVE SPEAKER SYSTEM).

I thought it was the PC9-406 that was more expensive!!!

I bought my PC2-17-4 from Halfords for around £12.

Got my DIN pocket from Halfords too, bit pricey at £29.95 (around £20 at many online places).

Here's a good link too for removing the dash (don't get scared by the picture of the millions of wires that this guy had to patch up - you won't need to with the Harness Adaptor).

Excellent, that's exactly what I needed.

Will my ariel still pop up with an aftermarket headunit?

and also, what's this?:

Dcp02580r.jpg

The big brown side part with the screws.... ?

This is probably the hardest headunit I've ever replaced....

I might spray the centre consol whilst it's out.

The ariel will indeed still pop-up when you select 'radio' on your headunit (that's something I was unsure about before I installed mine).

The 2 brown side bits, that is a 'cage' that screws into the car behind the dash - basically, your headunit doesn't 'slide' into a gap behind the dash, it'll be bolted to it via the 'cage'.
