What Is The Most Satisfying Thing About The Auris T180-sr180?

For me its the power in second and third gear and that big raw you get from the engine when you floor it in those gears. Also the solid drive you get especially when knocking it in 70-80mpg in cruise control on the motorways, its not tht bad round corners either :P

Take my advice Dave, pick your clios carefully! Dont try it on with the 172s and 182s, you'll get embarrassed. As for 206s, rock on!

Almost everything when I compare it to my wife's Auris 1.6. There's no uphills and I love acceleration on 5th and 6th gear, it's so linear all the time.

The most satisfying thing is that sleeper-look. Normally 95 % of Golf-class cars are underpowered 1.6-thingies and Auris T180/D-CAT looks like a average family car, no GTI-plates and fancy scoops like VW and others, just ultimate power under hood. Those BMW "kidneys" look nice when they're shrinking in your mirrors...

yes, i dont like the bmw kidneys. They are poo. I think the auris t180/sr180 are nice poweful "mini-cruisers" not chavmobiles like an evo or scooby. I love taking mine on the motorway. 70mph in cruise control in 6th and the thing revs at a nice quiet 2k rpm, but if you want to overtake, then the power is still there. So rare for a diesel at those engine speeds

Dunno!

I'm sttill trying to find something! Having given up a BMR330d with 160k on the clock for an Auris T180 with 10k, I think the BMW was better at everything and wished I'd kept it.

I find my Auris simply runs out of puff. Sure there is a pull when you shove it into 3rd and 4th but I don't think the handling is that great. Fuel economy (mine averages 41mpg) is worse than the BM (46 mpg), build quality isn't that great (comparatively speaking), steering is too light. No spare tyre etc.

I was aware of some of these flaws when I bought it but it seemed to put a lot of ticks in my boxes in other areas such as air con, cruise control, auto dimming mirrors etc., the biggest downer for me which (my fault entirely) I failed to check before hand is that I'm unable to get the ECU remapped!

Am now thinking I should've paid another £10k and bought myself a second hand BMW 135 .......

I have to say that a 330d is one of the best chasis and diesel engines ever made. It sounds like the older shape if its done 160k but still.

I pay for my cars, cash and at the time i didn't have enough for a 330d touring having renovated a house. I should have waited at the time. I know the next time around i will be looking at the new shape 330d touring. They are great to drive. I think a t180 with a chip to make the power more petrol like would suit you a lot better (like the bmw) but you can't chip it you say. Shame.

Having said that there are a few people here that have come from bmw 3 and 5 series to prefer their toyotas. So swings and roundabouts.

I think you had no choice to move a 160k 330d on and i'm surprised you didn't have turbo failure at that mileage.

Well one thing for sure it is not the Toyota figure of 46mpg that we cant get close to unless we do 100 miles on motorway at 65mph with cruise control and then we only get 45.1mpg. I am now beginning to wish I had stopped with a Honda as I now for sure their diesel 2.2 civics are doing 50mpg around town easy but are a little down on power

You can have a good go at getting 3 of your gripes sorted:

- SR180 springs are available from your dealer to improve the handling, though not sure it will be as good as you are use to.

- A spare is also available from your dealer, but I would suggest a slightly bigger tyre (info on here somewhere).

- Parts-King (Toyota dealer) is supposed to be releasing a performance chip anytime soon that is suited to the D-CAT engine.

... and it might improve fuel economy as well.

1. I had the Toyota springs fitted before I took delivery [box ticked]

2. Not that big a deal to me to be honest. It'd be nice to have but a shame that most cars seem to be erring toward a bottle rather than a tyre

3. Am already in discussion with Kingo and may go down that route but it's still a bolt on rather than ECU remap.

After 160k miles, the BMW was just starting to give me a few niggles and my guess was that it'd need the gesarbox out within the next 40k miles or so. I had that chipped with Superchip. It was superb at first, but it's amazing how quickly you get used to the performance change.

I'm typically doing 30k miles a year so it needed to be a diesel really.

I'm probably being too harsh on the T180. I was expecting to get slated on this forum for expressing my (negative) views and was pleasantly suprised by all your reactions. Thanks!

The T180 is a nice car, drives smoothly and is reasonably quiet but does feel a little bit tinny (if you know what I mean). That said, it's not in the prestige car league and that's reflected in their prices so I shouldn't complain really.

I am suprised at the poor fuel consumption though. I do a round trip of 110 miles each day of which 80 is on the motorway. It's difficult to go more than 70mph on the motorway nowadays because of all the congestion, but I'm typically getting between 40-42mpg from the T180.

Today I went to Sounthend and back (round trip of 211 miles), travelling down the A14 to join the M11 and then all the Average Speed cameras on the A127 forced me to take it easy ..... average mpg was 44 by the time I got home. That's taking it VERY easy!

Now that I've got it, realistically I feel I need to hang on to it for at least 2 years so you never know, it may grow on me yet!

Most satisfying thing about my T180:

Handing the car back to the dealers !

Shocking fuel consumption, and it's not even if the car makes it worth putting up with it. Some of you guys raving about this car really need to get out more !

Excellent dealer service though.

A fast petrol car will be in the £400 road tax band in 2-3 years, this was one of the reasons I got rid of the Type R. If you want a very quick nice car and raw to drive buy an Integra Type R 01 + these have 220bhp and are very nice http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2006-56-HONDA-INTEGR...%3A1|240%3A1318 You would like this for sure.

If you think the extra second to 60 will make much difference to your driving and be faster than a t180 with 410nm of torque in gear than you would be mad not to get a Golf GTI or R20 when it comes out.

I didn't get the GTI because it didn't feel that much quicker on the road in normal conditions and its thirstier, more co2, more tax, more insurance. Very nice though :)

well road tax doesnt bother me because i get my cars on contract hire through my dads company so you dont pay the road tax, the dealer does cause ur only hiring the car over 3 years in essence. The VRS petrol skoda has 200bhp and i think 280 nm of torque, not as much as the auris but the extra second off the 0-60 time puts it in league with the gti golf, st focus etc, if not quicker. With the DSG gearbox the vrs skoda is actually quicker then a golf gti, civic type r, st focus and even a 325, 525 bmw! at a fraction of the price

Hi mate, just reading your post even though i have a 2007 Avensis 2.2d4d 150. That mpg is very poor as i got 61 mpg with the cruise control on at 65mph on my last 100 mile round trip on motorway/A roads! As you know the Avensis is a lot heavier car so yours should do a lot better.

I nearly bought an Auris 180 but thought it wasn't as good value as the Avensis at the time and anyway I think my boy racer days are just about over, if I need some kicks I will borrow (if he lets me) my sons Nissan 350GT!!!

Better get back to the Avensis forum now before someone spots me on here, bye for now .... Pete.

The petrol VRS will cost allot to run. I think the Corsa VXR with its 1.6 is the mot cost effective petrol T180 beater. Fuel economy 35.8mpg (combined) and CO2 190g/km. It will do 0-60 in 6.8 seconds becuase of the good power to weight and the build quality feels expensive. You will obviously need a garage to hide it in.

i could never drive a vauxhall cause they are all totally *****. Everything in them just feels so plastically and the engines are nothing to be excited about. A corsa vxr just looks chavvy as hell, were as the toyota t180,sr180 and vrs skoda octavia are quality vehicles which will last more then 1 year and also dont feel like a cheap 1 pound bucket and spade set from some shop on a beach. The skoda vrs petrol gets 35 mpg combined and puts out 180g/km with the dsg gearbox
