HI THERE, I HAVE GOT A 2003 TOYOTA AVENSIS 2.0 D4D, WHEN IT IS COLD OR HOT IF I DRIVE THE CAR UPTO OR MORE THEN 3000 RPM IT GOES INTO SOME KIND OF SAFE MODE WHERE IT WILL NOT LET ME GO OVER 2000 RPM WHICH MEANS I HAVE TO SWITCH THE CAR OF AND THEN START IT UP AGAIN AND THEN WORKS FINE.

BUT WHEN THIS HAPPENS NO SMOKE COMES OUT OR ANY NOISES LIKE THE OTHER FAULTS I HAVE SEEN IN OTHER FORUMS.

THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME WHICH I HAVE GOT CHECKED OUT AND GIVES OUT THE ERROR CODE P1251.

WHEN YOU DRIVE THE CAR ITS LIKE THERES NOTHING WRONG BUT ALL OF A SUDDEN IT DIES!!!!

I HAVE CHANGED THE FUEL FILTER, AIR FILTER, OIL FILTER, OIL AND STILL NO JOY

TURNED THE LIGHT OF AND RESET THE MEMORY BUT KEEPS COMING UP WITH ERROR CODE P1251 AND DOESNT SHOW WHAT THE FAULT IS.

ANYONE CAN HELP OR GOT ANY IDEAS WHY THIS IS HAPPENING??

THANKS.

HI, I GOT IT DECODED AND GIVES OUT THIS (P1251)is correct it translate to that the electronic throttle motor might be in limp home mode.?? WHAT DOES THAT MEANS

it means that it is necessary to service it by means of cleaning + lubricating.

because it is responsible to prepare (petrol/air) mixture before ignition.

To MOUZY,

P1251 denotes air mixture solenoid circuit malfunction. Throttle motor just below engine coolant temp sensor just below inlet manifold from memory. Wait for more postings to confirm, you should get a few more postings later in the evening.

Regards, Beagh.

Hi Mouzy,

Have you had the latest ECU upgrade? Apparently the car goes into this safe mode you describe under certain conditions when it shouldn't. The upgrade merely changes the software settings for the tollerance levels before you get this error code appearing.

Might be worth asking Mr T if this is applicable to your car (it was to mine a 2.2 d4d - not that I had your problems though)

I assume you meant to say that the TURBO VANES ARE NOT STICKING .. (?)

Regards

S

To MOUZY.

Are Toyota suggesting you purchased a duff Turbo? Vanes sticking, remove your inlet pipe & check for movement that may denote worn bearings.

Go to www.btnturbo.com. They stock just about every brand of Turbo you could care to mention, you may find you have Garret-Turbo ( may stand corrected ) use their catalogue facility to verify your turbo just select 2003 book in PDF format & select your car, also all turbos have info tag that can be cross - referenced against parts catalogue. You may well be able to purchase new or rebuilt turbo with warranty at reduced price.

Regards, Beagh.

PS: Or as suggested check out ECM update if you find Turbo to be O.K.
