Toyota Celica Gen 7 (2000) Air Flow Meter Guide

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had a guide, or could guide me on how to replace my air flow meter??

Just a few days ago my malfunction light came on, i have had it diagnosed and the mechanic says that its the air flow meter.

I've had a look on eBay and i can get one for about £60, however the mechanic quoted me a price of £150

What do you think would be the best option?

Any help would be hugely appreciated

Many Thanks

This is possible the easiest part to change....... In the engine bay look on the front right hand side.... there should be a big black box (your air box), with a thick black hose connect to it. On this hose, next to the airbox will be a black plastic square... which 2 phillips screws.

Remove the phillips screws, remove and swap the new one over.

Although i would be dubious of getting a second hand one off eBay... they are very fragile...

Maybe worth trying to clean yours first.... look on the underside of the maf, there will be a bulb like filament inside the black plastic.. spray some carb cleaner or equivalent on it, let it dry and then replace it.

HI,

I have installed a Brand New 'Air Flow Meter' into my car, however, the revs have dropped from around 500-600rpm to 400-480ish..rpm.

It seems as though its about to cut off completely. Also the Malfunction Light is still on, I thought after having installed this, it would have gone off.

Has anyone got any ideas as to why this could be, It is the right Meter that i have purchased.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks

Did you reset the ECU after fitting it??

Disconnecting the battery for about 0.30 seconds will do the trick.

Oh right!!

I'll give that a try in the morning...what should the rpm be at idle??

When cold about 1500, then when warm down to about 800 or so.
