Brake Fluid Service - Part Of 20k Service Or Extra?

I took out a service plan last year which covers the 40k, 50k and 60k services.

Just got my 40,000 service done and I got charged seperately for a brake fluid service (£47 + VAT)

Now on the Procedure guide there is an item in black that says "Replace brake fluid every 2 years" - this says to me that the brake fluid service is part of the 2 year/20k schedule and therefore should be included in the plan price.

Any comments?

your right - the fluid should be changed every 20k miles or 2 years. Which leads to it being part of the 40k and 60k services init?

I took out a service plan on purchase of my RAV too. Prior to agreeing to buy the plan I questioned why the total cost was actually a bit more than if I 'paid as I went' for servicing. I was told that the plan was fixed and the published service prices were not and could/would go up over three years. I was also told that the cost of all necessary fluids and oils was included, which it is not in the published service charges.

I would argue your case and, if not satisfied, speak to the area service manager. Unless you paid the total cost of the plan 'upfront' you can always stop the payments.

Sorry Hoovie, but the brake fluid change is not part of the service.

Both brake and clutch fluid changes are 'extra' and therefore chargeable. Toyota "advise" you to change them, not tell you!

Service plans are cheaper than "pay as you go" because the services are worked out at the current labour rate. I was told by one of the service guys at Reading, that the only way to make money from servicing is to put up labour rates each year, because cars are so quick to service now!
