Hi,

Has anybody here had the dreaded 1.8vvti engine problem on a 05 reg or above?

Just wondering if the engines were modified by then?

Also, does anybody know how many types of auto gearbox were fitted to the 1.8?....some are advertised as semi-auto but appear to be normal torque convertor boxes?

Thanks,

Phil.

Have you got oil consumption problems with a later VVTi? Don't know when they got round to putting the problem right in manufacture.

If you have, take it in to your local Mr T for an oil consumption check. They will top it up and send you away for 1000miles (or sooner if you think it's getting too low).

Hi Q.S.,

Thanks for your info, but I am aware of the procedure.I have recently bought my car, with low mileage and I was aware of these issues to be honest but was hoping that the engines would have been modified by 05.After all this appears to have been going on for years with the VVTi engines, starting with the previous model.

There is a lot of discussion about this, here and other forums, but what surprises me is the lack of actual definitive info.

I have spoken to several large Toyota dealerships none of whom could tell me approx. when this problem was cured.

Sorry if this sounds like a "rant",but I do think that with a manufacturer with the reputation Toyota has..(had?),we should not have to think in terms of how long an engine will last on a modern car that is correctly serviced.

Thanks....Phil.
