I want a retro car to replace my wifes Micra and thought an Mk1 would be ideal but I understand they are old.

What should I look out for in terms or reliability? Are there many Jap turbo editions in the UK (non on fleebay at the moment)?

How much are you paying for insurance?

They never made a turbo version, only the rare supercharger ones which came out in 1987.

Insurance isnt bad but its all down to personal circumstance, thay are 1.6 so cant imagine it beeing too rough. Things to watch out for are rust as this version of MR2 suffered with rot. Especially on the front wings and rear archers. Anything else to look out for are leaky T-Bar roof's if you are looking at getting one. Make sure the car is straight as they got pranged alot!

Good luck with the hunt as there are lots of examples out there.

Plenty of Mk1 owners on here too to help you out.

You need to find a lowish mileage example with no rust, expect to pay up to £2000 for a good example, UK spec.

As above there is no turbo model.. you can however retro fit a lot of different engines..I have a Mk2 Mr2 turbo engine in my Mk1.. the power to weight ratio makes it a very quick car indeed, scary fast.

Good luck with it , and good choice!
