Jacking Up Front End

Recommended Posts

Anyone know if there are problems with putting axle stands under the front lower wishbones?

I want to remove both front wheels to paint the brake calipers and it will also mean I can get under the front to fit the new exhaust system. I CANNOT use ramps because the front splitters would catch.

Sensible answers only please, need to do the work this weekend.

Hi There.

DO NOT use the lower wishbones to support the car.

The spring & strut are designed to take the weight,

The wishbone is for lateral forces only.

Please, find some other way.

You might get away with it, but its really bad practice.

Ian.

Can't you paint one side first, replace the wheel then jack up the other side and paint the other?

Ooops, just read your post properly.

Don't know what to do about the exhaust. The front bolts are reasonable access from under the bonnet.

Perhaps the way to go is to reverse the rear of the Aygo up the ramps.

Work under the car from the rear where all the heavy stuff is and do the front bolts from under the bonnet?

Cheers Ian,

Almost sorted now, Very high Kerb on one side and skinny person to help with the centre exhaust hanger. Just got to get some longer bolts to go in the flange for the cat.
