Emergency Stop Fuel Starvation

Recommended Posts

Posted

Just had the problem for the second time. When the reserve indicator on the fuel guage was flashing and I had to do an emergency stop the engine didn't die completely but took the best part of 10 seconds to stop hesitating and allow me to drive off. I put this down to petrol surge due to the very flat tank as once it had recovered there was no further problem. I reported it to the Toyota agent from whom I bought the iQ simpy because if ya don't tell 'em they won't know. They said they would report it back to Toyota as customer feedback just to ensure they are aware. Thought I'd start a posting here both to warn others (it's a bit scary when you want to accelerate out of a situation and you're sat like a duck dead in the water!!) and to see if others have experienced this 'characteristic'.

Regards to all.

I found that after some time of being on the reserve I went down a steep hill and all of a sudden I was back up to half full which lasted 20 miles or so so the movement of fuel must not be a simple pool rather I suspect like the tank in the Civic I had previously with a honeycomb system that stops the fuel rapidly moving about so hence the starvation you experienced. I could be mistaken but thats my initial thoughts.
