Hi all, just wondered if anyone else has tried to install the toyota Roof Rack on there auris.

I have just started getting ready to install when reading the instructions it says to check for a 5mm gap between the top of the door and roof when closed. if there is not enough gap then the doors need to be lowered- contact service centre etc.

Well only one of my doors has the required gap. so i wondered is lowering the doors an easy 5 min job a novice could do or will i have to take in to toyota and get charged stupid money for it?

Cheers,

I have racks for my 3 door and didnt notice it saying this.. Keeping them on for any lenght of time does distort the rubber seal at the top of the door but I guess you shudnt keep them on if they arent being used for fuel ec etc.

I have on my 5dr Auris. I didn't check that 5mm gap  . I just check, if I can close the door or not :D

During my last trip with the Roof Rack (11 hours long trip) it was raining continuously and there wasn't any problem.

will meen loosening the door higes at the body and lowering by a mm or so. but be careful as you can mess up the door fit.

Why tho? Are the 5 door different from the 3 door racks?? I dont think you would have to lower them at all.. Plus why wud Toyota make an accessory which needs a mod to the car like that..

Yes! It is very different!

I guess they write into the manual that 5 mm gaps for the worst case. If we can close the door (if not, the installation was wrong) no problem any more.

I wouldn't care about that 5 mm gap. Actually, I didn't ;)

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi there, how did you get on with the roof bar fitting?

I bought a set last week and have exactly the same problem with my 5-dr SR. The gauge slips in easily at one door, just in at another, but the two back doors have only about half the required clearance. Dealer I bought the car and the bar wants just under £70 to lower the two back doors. But they have warned me that I will probably have problems in the future with wind noise and the doors sagging!

Still swithering whether it is worth the hassle and possible future problems, or was the dealer covering his backside in case he messes up lowering the doors?

Cheers
