Changing My Cts For A Civic Type-r!

Hi guys,

Haven’t been posting here much recently but I am still around, been on the Type-R forums and been to a few meets with them. Just before I do this I was interested in was the Toyota guys have to say on the matter. My T-Sport Corolla is due to reinsured at the end of February and I have almost made up my mind that instead of reinsuring the car I would sell it and buy myself a little run around for a few months and get some money together for the Type-R. I have already drive the 04 Civic Type-R and really liked it.

One of the reasons for considering this change is that I was destroyed by a Cooper S at the weekend though a huge roundabout complex in Briantree in Essex. Round the corners the mini was untouchable but I did claw back a bit of ground in the straight sections.

Guys what do I do!

Nick

When I looked at one earlier in the month I didnt think the bulid was too bad. I know it hasnt got the same amount of toy though!

But the handling is fantastic

get the type-r, it's a quicker nimbler machine!

plus you don't have to do very much to get some very nice performance figures out of them.

I seem to remember saying this a month or so ago only to be slapped down by the Tsport following:P ... how come you've changed your mind?

and as for digging at the build quality of honda's, puh-leaze.

honda make good cars, every bit as good as toyota in fact... and while toyotas 'last forever' reputation is excellent... honda's is just as good even if their reputation is understated.

V-Tec engines are near bulletproof.

I'd recommend the Integra Type R over the Civic though as it is SUCH a raw machine in comparison. Think 1.8 V-Tec engine with super-lightweight fly, forged pistons, hand ported and polished head as standard, along with very little sound deadening (that stuff is heavy) and even an extra thin, lightweight windscreen. It might only be a 1.8 but it puts out 190bhp, will get you to 60 in 6.2 seconds (the book says 6.7) and no other 4cyl sounds anywhere near as good. Driving an ITR is a different experience IMO - You actually FEEL the machine almost to the point of being a part of it, rather than just sitting in and driving it. (If you haven't guessed, I have a bit of a thing for the 'Teggy)!

That's if you can afford to insure it, of course - ITRs are fairly steep.

Otherwise, I'd still say the Civic Type R is a good move.

All i know is the one i drove rattled and farted and squeaked all the way down the road. I don't like the gearknob either. I m toying with the idea of importing a Matrix. Thats a toyota Matrix, NOT a Hyundai Matrix.

To my surprise I posted a similar question on typer.org forum today and the response from the people that I know on there was that they think I should keep the T-Sport. They have all commented on how well it does against the Civic for the extra weight it carries and the power it produces from it normally aspirated 1.8 are well there was me thinking I had made up my mind. Oh dear what to do!

if is handing you need dont just lower the car and expect a major different

For the cts you also need a set of 18 inch wheel +low profile rubbers and a small sport steering wheel

these three simple things are very good combination for improve handing

It all depends on how much money you are going to spend, but you would miss extra features from your CTS if you wanted to change over to CTR...

You definetly need wider tires and better suspension, If you have money, get lightweight (weight of the wheels is extremly important) oz racin g 17" (superleggeras) with some Bridgestone S03 tires (or equal high performance tire), and TTE suspension set (expensive) and you will kick some azz handling wise... For cheap, get 225/45 tires on your standard wheels (S03's) and lowering springs, and CTS will look and handle much better although not as good as it could.

You easily see the differences between stock and new tires here:

http://pw1.netcom.com/~sgalaba/tiresize.htm

Right now you have narrow comfy tires that are there to make sure that everyone likes CTS which is why you get beaten by the likes of Cooper S which is set to be much harder on your back...

Dont get 18" wheels, it doesnt make sense, you lose performance with the size and weight of the wheels, so 18" or 19" would be just for show in this case. You dont have some 300 hp rwd car...

nothing wrong with 18inch wheels on a cts

think you will find you only lose performance if your tires or wheels are too wide

Hello Guys,

I knew this post would generate some interest, anyway I yesterday I got offered a Job I have been waiting on since October. I will be letting residential property within the square mile of London. The job will pay very well and I have decided to make the change despite what’s been said. I have really enjoyed the CTS but feel I would be more suited to the Civic Type-R.

Really looking forward to getting my new toy but I will stay on the forum and keep you all in touch. When it arrives I shall let you all know.

Nick

Sounds like you'll be well placed to deliver a long-term test report

on the two cars! Stay in touch and let us know how it goes.

Cheers

Paul.
