hello all. i am a nissan fan for last 15yrs i have always bought nissan but decided to change and bought myself a toyota avensis t3-x d4d , it is a second hand car. i am new to toyota and its electronics . i have a strange / silly question .

:o

recently i filled up a diesel for 20 quid and on the display it was showing 200 miles and on average it was showing 58mpg. so i thought this is just a toyota gadget so didnt bother , but noticed those figures were changing while driving around london ...avg went to sometimes 38.7---39mpg ....but recently when ever i refuel it resets and fuel distance comes as normal but this flippin avg reads 78.0mpg....i dont understand what is this??? also when ever i acclerate hard a smoke comes out ..this only happens on a hard acceleration when i want to speed up....no loss of any power..someone told me that i need injector cleaner or they might have topped up an engine oil more than they should....newbie here..excuse my grammers and language.help or advice would be highly appereciated.

The computer usually has the functions of Range at current consumption on remaining fuel, immediate mpg which varies with conditions and the average consumption since the computer was last reset. You can zero all of these at refuelling or at the beginning of a journey. Models differ but handbook should tell you how to do this or keep the select button pressed until display zeroes. Sorry I can't help with the smoke but some is normal on hard accelleration.

The smoke caused by hard acceleration is unburnt fuel. Your turbo is playing catch up and tries to supply enought air to burn the fuel. All diesels suffer from this problem and is nothing to worry about.
