St205 Urgent Help :-(

My engine recently died on me and I was at first told it could be something to do with the cam-belt. Yesterday we had a compression test run on the car and have now been told its the cylinder heads that have gone.

Does anybody know a good mobile machanic in the Herts area who could fix this type of thing? I've been told it might be easier to get a new engine but that seems like a right pain.

Thanks,

Justin

very unlikly to be the cylinder head mate, never heard of one going before. unless its a valve failure (again unlikely) then i would say it is most likley timing belt. what are they saying is wrong with the cylinder head? if they say its head gasket then i can tell you i have seen lots of ST-205's including some very high power ones and never seen a failed head gasklet as they are a multi layer steel item as standard.

Now i'm just confuzed. One machanic has said it could be something to do with the cam belt and another said after running a compression test it was the cylinder heads!! What to do!

Basically, I was driving along and I started to hear a rattling type sound....not a banging or knocking. Then it went and came back and my engine just died. Then I had smoke coming from the came belt area.

ok,

Problem one

your mechanic is stupid

or

you didnt hear him right

Cylinder heads just do not "go".

Now,

What could have happened is ....

Your driving along/......,

Bang/Snap .... ratttle rattle

(noise of your pistons slapping your valves)

You have bent your valves in the head, which is causing low compression.

maybe you have damaged your pistons.

Join a proper Celica GT 4 forum, they can and will recommend a decent mechanic.

These cars are not to be worked on by the avreage - hammer mechanic
