98s Starlet Sr

I've had my Starlet for 2 years now, but fancy a change (probably to another Toyota), the car is in pretty good nick, and as standard except I've added a Pipercross Induction Filter (do still have the original Air Filter/Box), and fitted some Kenwood Speakers to replace the Paper cones that came with the car. I've got a set of EBC Greenfrog pads and Spare tyre I'd throw in with the car as well. Its done about 42K Miles, and is taxed until the end of November and MOT'd until the end of July. I'm asking £3250, but I'll take note of any serious offers.

Anyone who was interested, I've now sold my Starlet. I'm hoping the new owner has as much fun in it as I had in it. It was a top little car. Now decisions, decisions as to what could replace it :)

alright mate, just a question about your induction kit, i'm thinking about putting one im my little sr too but thinking which one to go for and how to fit it, how did you fit yours? did you bolt it straight onto the throttle body, keep the existing rubber tube and bolted the cone on the end or did you make your own tube and scrap the original stuff....??

just need some advice really

P.S did it make any difference to the speed of the car??? any increase in "BHP"?

Thanks

I attached the cone to the Rubber Tube. It was VERY tight fit and required the Rubber to heated using boiling water, so after the Induction filter was attached there was absolutely no need for the metal collar. 3 things though - 1) You'll need a filter with a hole for the Sensor which regulates air flow - I used a Pipercross Induction Kit which was intended for a Citroen Saxo Westcoast or Peogeot 106 Quicksilver which is model PK120, and 2) Keep the Black bulb-like affair which is attached to the underside of the rubber tube, it seems to have something to with collecting unused gases. You might also want to replace the Gas Return Tube which comes from the top of the cylinder head back to the rubber tube (If I remember right) with something a bit longer to give yourself a bit more room for manouver. 3) Also when you take the Air box off. Its mounted on a Metal plate which I'd expect as was mine be a pain to take out. I'd suggest something like I did, which is wrap it in cloth material (white dish cloth type stuff/off cuts), and maybe use some Black Duck tape to cover the Bolt holes coming from the inner wing (otherwise you might damage the material of the induction filter).

Speed and BHP wise I'm not sure - induction filters are always supposed to be about 5-10bhp, but it's not a guarenteed thing, and I never got a chance to time my car - my mate had a Accelerometer but I was in the process of selling when he got it, although thinking about it I'd of really like to have tried that - if ever I see the car again I'll try or if you get a chance let us know . I'd expect to make a real difference you might need a cold air feed, but I did try one of these (borrowed from a friend - about 10 CM diameter) and found it difficult to feed the tube, due to the radiator and manifold position.

Tell me if you try this if you find a good place to fit one.

Sound wise I was well chuffed though, when driving around normally it sounded fine. open the throttle at all and it sounded great. Did sound a bit odd starting cold though, BIG whooshing noise because it was drawing in air directly. Toyota dealers also didn't have a problem with it and serviced the car fine. One of the mechanics even gave advice on bits and bobs. Plus when it came to selling the car, 2 of the people looking at buying it were Toyota Mechanics, one from nearby, and one from down south in London.

Hope all of this helps. Let me know how you get on :) (If I could of kept the Starlet and have my new car I would. They're a proper go-kart of a car the SR, all properly low slung).
