Range Indicator

Hi,

I have a 56 plate D-4D RAV4 and the computer on the dash seems to have gone a bit weird. The range in miles indicator showing how many miles you can do before you run out of fuel has continued to decrease even after putting in some diesel. Whereas before it would show a low fuel indicator when I had about 40 miles left in the tank, it is now on zero miles on the range indicator, but not giving me low fuel warnings, although I have half a tank full of diesel!

Is there any way to reset this, I have looked through the Toyota book and it doesn't tell me if it can be done. Or is this a trip to the dealer.....?

welcome to the forum swanrizla...

have you tried switching the ignition off, waiting 30 seconds then switching the ignition back on whilst your left hand is earthed onto something metallic like a lamppost? If you repeat this 30 times, it won't help but the nice folk in white jackets come along and give you happy pills !

No doubt a reel expurt will be alang in a few hoors........

I'm sure this happens when you let the tank go very low. It should clear itself when you fill up again, not sure

if half a tank is suffice. Personally, I wouldn't let it get so low

Hi there and welcome,

I had this on one of my cars which I had run quite low, I only put 1/4 tank of fuel in and I got the feeling that the car wasn't happy with this so it did not reset the miles left reading. I then filled it up and as a reward it registered properly again.

Hope this helps as I don't think its a fault, just a querk of the computer.

Try resetting the average mpg display, once you've filled the tank above half way.

The range indicator uses this information to help calculate approximately how many miles are left

Thanks a lot, I'll try filling her up and see if it does the trick!

After you've done that, nick round to the petrol station and fill the tank up with best quality oily burning stuff!
