Can anyone advise if my friend whose 3 yr old Aygo(Registered April 06), has just failed it's first MOT at a their local Toyota Dealership. The MOT report read : " MOT Failed due to Brake Inbalance 27% _DANGEROUS!). He has been qtd £300(AFTER MUCH PUSHING AND HAGGLING WAS £345.00)- fully inc inc vat, labour, MOT test and to replace brand new Toyota Discs and Pads. Is this a reasonable price still or a complete ripoff?

Should he take it elsewhere, but folk out an extra £53.10 for another MOT test AND GET SECOND OPINION ETC?

Can anyone help he's desperate and feels he's being ripped off on labour charges or even asks the question, should'nt the discs and pads, last longer than 40k miles considering he drives like a sunday driver! lol :D

I would phone my local Kwik-Fit(or similar) and get a quote for replacing the discs, if he gets the work done and then takes it back to toyota for the test within a week I think it's discounted anyways. No point paying for another MOT until the brakes are sorted though.

A set of EBC discs cost £51.30 inc VAT(free postage) from www.brakes4u.co.uk (http://www.brakes4u.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=D1397)

He could try another MOT (mine was £40 for my April 2006 registered Aygo - but they would not do any work. Perhaps your mate has done high mileage. You could pm parts king for a quote):

Ok, thanks guys for the information which I've passed onto him. BTW, the car has done 40,000 miles. Aparently, he has upto a week to get the car sorted for a retest or default and pay for another MOT. :help2:

It is unlikely they have said that the discs need replacing if they aren't badly worn. Some people on here have reported needing new discs at 20k miles.

I've read that a consequence of using "asbestos free" brake pads is increased disc wear.

depends what exactly is wrong - sometimes doing less mileage can be worse than more.

Mine just went in for service number 2. 15K on the clock and the discs needed to be replaced. Apparently covered under the warranty if under 20,000 miles, so they're replacing them for free :-)
