Suspected Oil Drop From A Nearly New Avensis

Hi there,

My mum has just bought a nearly new 2 litre petrol Avensis 2008 T-Spirit, it has 3000 miles on the clock and looks really nice. I noticed the other day though that there were four or five drops of oily fluid on the driveway under where the engine would have been when it was parked there. The drops were about an inch in diameter.

Mum took it to the dealer to ask them to have a look and they said it was totally dry underneath and that she should bring it back the next time she takes a longer journey and they would have another look.

I was wondering if this was a problem my mum should worry about - are there any known problems with these cars - or is this just a normal thing that happens with a newish car?

Thanks in advance for your help.

James

Are you sure its not water from the Air Con?

I would have thought this would be the most likely, normal water when on the ground will have an oily look to it in small quantities from impurities in the surface it's dripped onto, best bet is next time you see some, just dip your finger into it and see what it is, it'll be nothing dangerous and it'll soon tell you if it's oil or water from the texture.

hello JAMES

take a newspaper and put it under the engine area after a trip done. leave this for a night. In case the oil leak is confirmed then the oil rtaces will be available on the paper. But in case these drops are condensate from A/C returning line -- these water drops will be evaportated and the paper will be dry in the morning.

follow these simple steps.

Cheers/Igor

Thanks for the answers, I really appreciate it.

Right - I'm going to try the newspaper thing and see if anything is dropped and whether it's from the Air Con.
