A Few Questions On My Yaris :)

hi, i got my yaris in august 08 and other than it is a bit slow to start compare to pretty any other cars on the road, i love it. i am quite a noob when it comes to cars so here are my questions.

1. i've been doing a little over 1000 miles a month, (9k miles on the car after 8 month), is that too much?

2. i had my 5k maintenance and everything was fine. i will continue have these every 5k miles. so i still need to check regularly whether my tires are getting wore out, my tire pressure, my engine oil level etc?

3. if i pop a tire, would i be able to feel it while driving? if the tire pressure is too low, would it show on my dash board? what's the regular pressure suppose to be if i buy one of those meters to check?

4. i am an enthusiastic driver (at least i think), i do 80 - 90 on highway and 60 - 80 on local depending on the traffic, is that too stressful for such a small/slow car? would driving fast damage the car in any aspect?

Thanks :D

Hello and welcome to TOC UK

The Yaris in UK is serviced at 10K miles or every year (Whichever comes first)

To answer your questions:

1. 1000 miles a month is not really too much for a Yaris............Not sure what size engine is fitted in USA but the smallest UK engine is 1.0 litre and many 1.0 litre Yaris's exceed 1000 miles a month!

2. Tyres (Tires) (Pressure and wear), oil levels etc need to be checked regularly...........(At least every 2 weeks).

Depending on how you drive, 15 to20K from tyres should be achievable.

3. If you "Pop a tire" you will feel the car try to pull to the side that has popped...................As far as I know the Yaris is not yet fitted with tyre pressure detection.............there is no real substitute for checking your pressures regularly...........Get yourself a tire pressure guage!

4. The modern engine in the Yaris should be more than capable of the speeds that you mentioned...............You will only damage the car if you crash it due to excessive speed!

Good luck with your Yaris driving ...............and take care

The 1.5 Ltr 1NZ-FE engine is fitted to all Yaris's on sale in the States, and may seem a small engine but is more than capable of the speeds and mileage you mention. As long as it's serviced regularly there wont be a problem. The Yaris that is and has been available over here vary in engine sizes from the 1.0 Ltr right up to the sporty 1.8 Ltr, can easily cope with the speed and milege you mention.

Hope that answers your questions.

P.S.

Just out of curiosity, do you have the hatchback or the sedan?

thanks for the answer! i guess i have to make a check list every 2 weeks on what i need to do with the car (or is there a standard check list somewhere on the forum?)! i have a flint mica sedan. i think my yaris is fairly standard in the states (1.5ltr i think lol)

As with all cars, it is built to be driven!

You will only damage the engine if you drive well into the red range of the rev counter for sustained periods or if you fail to check oil, water, etc regularely and/or ignore any warning signs as and when you see them!

Aside from that, the engine should go round the clock without too much trouble if you service it at the regular intervals. A so called small engine in a modern car, should last as long as an older vehicle with larger lump, due to technical leaps in manufacture!
