Someone suggested it could be the flywheel about to pack up.

Would anyone else agree with this.

There is another problem I have noticed which may or may not be associated with the engine noise and that is a smell.

The best I can describe the smell is a sort of oily cats pee!!!

Did you read up on the Pinned topic at the top of the RAV section about the DMF problems...... Mine had the noise rather like a metallic rattle at low revs and noticeable in 1st and 2nd gear... but had no smell though like you described.....

If yours gets too bad... I could always nudge the local farmer, he has loads of fields that need ploughing...and your RAV could be a good tractor substitute :rolleyes:
