Gen 7 Brake Fluid

Hello,

I've recently had all four discs and pads changed on my 2000 reg celica. It's been over 2wks since they were done and today on going for a drive smelt a humid water/burning type smell. I pulled over and checked to find the brake fluid reservoir empty.

Does anyone know if the changing of the pads and discs could have led to this? Do you have to drain/bleed the fluid when replacing discs/pads? In which case could this be down to the garage missing something ie re-filling the brake fluid reservoir?

Any ideas?

Many thanks

You don't have to drain the fluid but bleeding is necessary on a Disc/Pad change. Could be one of the bleed nipples hasn't been tightened up sufficiently.

Toyota use DOT3, but you can use either DOT4 (which I use) or 5.1.

changing disc and pads, you do not have to bleed the brake system

They may have had to remove some brake fluid from the reservoir though as it may have been topped up as the brakes became low.

When they push the pistons back into the calipers to make room for the new pads and disks this can push too much fluid back into the reservoir if it is already quite full.

So to remove the oil, they may have possibly bled some off. Only a possibility though. I'd be straight down the garage though!
