Australian Spec Import

Hi Guys

I am bringing to the UK my Australian spec Auris (Corolla) 1.8 petrol. In order to get it registered the car needs to be compliant to UK specs with regard to:

1. Speedo to read mph (currently only kph)

2. Rear fog light, switch and warning light need to be fitted.

I plan to do the following, but would like confirmation that this should work:

a. Purchase a used Optitron speedo cluster from a UK Auris and fit directly. Hopefully the speedo ratios and cable plugs will be identical etc. My AU spec car has a non Optitron cluster.

b. Purchase a used light switch stalk from a UK Auris, this will have rear fog light switch incorporated, (no rear fog light in AU)

c. Open up the rear offside light lens and fit a bulb to the hopefully spare holder.

The car is currently on the water and arrives next week so I cannot investigate the actual car until then.

Any advice would be much appreciated because I would like to purchase the parts prior to the arrival of the car next week which will enable me to get it on the road asap.

Thanks

Congratulations on your purchase but iam curious why.. This might sound like an interrogation :D

Why an Aus model?

Which model?

and why?

Wouldnt be cheap to ship there would it?

Hope to see pics when you can as well..

Good luck with it :)

Im guessing you've just moved from Oz?

Sounds like a good plan you've got and I cant see any issues with it. However are cars rust proofed over there? If not I'd get on the case asap!

Might be worth considering binning the Auris and buying something half decent !

Saab

LOL the one that may not be developed anymore? Very decent, if they'll stop the factory no-one will buy it from you

as they'll know that no-one will provide any service for it as they won't be interested to give you some good customer service!

But hope you are happier man now, why aren't you at the SAAB forum BTW? :D

I would sell it and buy one over here. Esva is a pain and the car will lose you money. The Aussie dollar is strong at the moment and the bottom has fallen out the uk car market. Your car will make more money in Oz

The reason I know is that I was looking on taking a car to Oz next year. The Oz Market is stronger and the costs in importing are silly to even bother. Get a maloo and import that. Then you'll make money.
