I took a test drive today in a 2008 Aygo 1.0 VVT-i + and was quite excited about it until I started checking on the internet!! Now I am in a right muddle!! All the stuff I am reading about leaks on this website and noise at speed on technical sites are making me question if it would be a good move to purchase it.

I currently have a 9 year old Fiesta which has been great ( and very reliable) but it is ready for a change and I tried the Aygo as I liked its looks and its economy in running costs. Advice from real owners would be helpful please.

My daughter owns a 2007 Black model with air-con :) Nice looking little car

If she could turn back time she would buy either a Fiesta or a Corsa

Need I say more

I bought my aygo last year in September.

If I'd read this forum before I would never buy it. However, I love my little car. besides three water leaks ( that really happened even I didn't believe) , which I think it's fixed right now, since last time the car went to Toyota garage ( January 2009), which service is very good.

Of course I lost some of the confidence in my car, but :

1- It's in guarentee time

2- what car could cost the same (cheap) new or almost new?

3- what car could be that cheap to run?

4- what car could be so funny to drive?

5- my husband loves to drive my car, even he has got a powerful one from volkswagen

6- too easy to park

7- good services in toyota

;)

These are all reasons why I didn't reject or sold my car yet. I hope it last . But what car has no problems today???

Sorry my english ( I'm Portuguese) But we have to defend our aygos , guys

At the end of the day more people shout when they have a problem, than those that dont have problems. So your more likely to see negative things about cars on the internet than positive.

There are far more non-leaking Aygo's out there than leaking ones.

If its an 08 it might have the uprated door seals anyway.

Bought mine July 2008, 3door with MMT, apart from one problem which occured within 1 month of ownership, I was ready to dump the car on the dealers forecourt but I have had no problems since, Have found a better place for any service/warranty work if needed, they are authorizedToyota service dealers, and also a Citreon dealer.Went to them originally looked at a C1 because they don't sell Toyota's .

The service guys are very helpful and as I said apart from the one problem which was with the ignition interlock have had no other problems,NO Waterleaks, some of us have had good experiences with our cars, so people don't hear about the good ones.

Am a newbie here but had my Aygo for over 5 weeks now on an 09 plate.

Other than a creaky drivers seat the car has been perfect so far touch wood.

Although the car has it's problems, you need to take what's posted with a pinch of salt. Many happy Aygo owners are not even on the internet let alone the forums.

I think the newer Aygos are better with the leaky problem resolved, however during the switch to facelift models, some may have past the net.

Bought my car in Sept'08, no leaks so far and very happy with the car. One thing I would change on the car is more support on the seats though, too much roll when you throw the car around.

we must have been lucky

we bought a Aygo + in november 2006 (56 plate) and it was faultless in the time we owned it - never leaked, economy was excellent - much better imo than the fiesta's and corsa's we test drove

Fun but fragile I would say. If you want reliability get a Yaris or Mazda 2 or new Fiesta. The new fiesta is a cracking car apparently.

Mine doesn't leak but the passenger seat has now started squeaking which is no great shakes but I am more concerned about the amount of problem people have had with clutches at small milages. My clutchj has had he odd burning smell as if being ridden too long once as well.

Considering more than one person has received a car with the steering wheel not on straight (how simple is that to get right and check for?) I think the quality control at the Cz factory leaves a lot to be desired. If the Aygo was made in Japan I'm sure it would be a lot better.

It's probably the one area where the IQ is better than the Aygo.

Very true, but look at the Yaris part of this forum. They complain but then if you look at the cars being complained about they are all 8 years old rather than 8 months !

I'm still searching for a car which doesn't develop faults during warranty period. The only one which came close was a smart cabrio, but even this went back at least once.

Our Aygo is currently at the dealership awaiting a new waterpump. First fault in almost 2.5 years, but a 6 week wait is unacceptable.

We have a Micra courtesy car - very well kitted out, excellent to drive, unfortuantely the looks put me off. In many regards I prefer it to the Yaris we had while our Aygo problem was being assessed, but both these cars are just a bit too large for the area we have to park.

For the money I'd still pick the Aygo.

Bear in mind that not many people post on a forum to say how great their car is. It's a place to get solutions to problems!

There are thousands of Aygos out there and most of them are fine!

Me and Mrs Smoothound both have Aygos and have had no problems with leaks. The only issues were with her boot button and wing mirror joystick. My front discs were corroded and replaced under warranty. The boot button is a known thing, due to the flat back of the car causing a build up of muck - keep the car clean and it shouldn't happen. The mirror joystick - probably a rough previous owner. As for the discs, I'm not sure, but they're being replaced FOC so I'm not too bothered!

Whatever car you go for, there will be faults, that's what warranties and servicing are for!

Just go drive a car, get a feel for it, give it a good look over and go with your gut feeling! Personally, I think getting the Aygo is one of the wisest things I've ever done :D

I live in Malta....we have hundreds of aygo's driving happily here :) Its a great car that suits the city car status really well. I never had leaking problems & the economy issue places the aygo in a very interesting area too. I never saw an aygo for sale in a car dealer's shop....not even a 2005 model, which in itself proves that aygo owners are quite satisfied with them, rather than disappointed!!

Which brand or model is trouble free?? Why are warranties there for? I have loads of friends owning other brands or models.....& believe me, their stories are amazing!!

We have 2 aygos, both are Aygo+. One is 1 year old and the other one is 2 years old. 0 problems on both.

I've started a topic on water ingress, I think about 15% of the votes had leaks. Anyway, most people come to the forums to find solutions to their problems, not to write the 0 problems they have and how great their car is.

The answer is yes, go ahead and buy it.

Hiya!

I got my aygo platinum 3 door '09 last month and have to say for my first car it is fantastic!! I passed my test in February and got my little car on the 1st March.

As a midwifery student I have to travel all over for placements and therefore needed a cheap but reliable little car to get me around! It does the job without a doubt, getting me wherever I need safely and quickly! It is perfect to park and is a great city run around. I take it to uni a few days a week and I do get a little scared on the motorway as it sounds crazy when going at speed but its main purpose for me is a city run around (got my boyfriends car for long motorway runs) and it does just fine! It also has a lot of space in the front too considering it is a tiny car. I am 5'9 and my boyfriend is 6'2 and there is enough room for both of us comfortably. I have to say though, I drive with the seat pushed right back obviously, so there isn't any leg room in the back!!

It is just affordable for me too!! The tax and insurance is cheap and a tank of petrol lasts me forever!!

No problems yet (touch wood), everything is great!

I could be biased as I have nothing to compare it to, but I love its character, its cute looks and its little purr when driving!

Well I am also from portugal, got mine on the 28th of March, already have 2700 km's on the clock, It is the new facelift model, and I am just LOVING it, no leaks up to now, and I have washed the car several times, with high pressure water, have driven in the rain for about 5 days, and no water :) only have issues with the glovebox lid, it opens by itself, but it is going to be sorted under warranty next week :) otherwise it is a sweet ride!

I tried it out for the first time last year, and have loved it ever since! would not change it for a Corsa or a Fiesta....

The Aygo even helps brand new people into the world, how cool and worthwhile is that ! B)

Have to agree with Emz, the character of the little engine is great. It growls it purrs and it zings a like a mini porsche at 6000rpm. It is fantastic.

And when you downshift from 3rd to 2nd at 50mph it make a lovely ummooom sound.

My Aygo is currently leaking and has a rattle on passenger seat, but I still love it and would defiantly buy another one. Go for it :)

I was toying with the idea of changing car, but I just can't justify the EXTRA costs that this would

incurr and I don't just mean the cost of change for cars.

Besides I have grown very attached to my wee car and have decided to use some of the money

I was gonna spend to get some alloys, new Speakers and a new head unit.

I would be a fool to have anything else just now

Hi,

It has been raining here a lot for hours since yesterday.

My Aygo isn't leaking. I think the problem ( I had 3 times last January) is solved now after last time it went to toyota's garage.

I'm happy for it.

Well I have had my Aygo for 15 months now and had no problems at all!! It does everything I ask of it and its FUN :D

Thanks for all the feedback that has been posted. I have just returned from the dealers having struck a deal on an 08 Aygo+. I went back to them with several questions about warranty work and even checked on Thursday in the pouring rain that there was no wet in the vehicle, following some of the comments here.

Now I am really excited about picking up the car on Thursday afternoon. :D :yahoo:
