Driver Power 2009

Just bought today's copy of Auto Express with the 2009 Driver Power survey. Having owned my Auris for 2 months now I have been really happy with it, but 74th shows that many owners obviously aren't! I know that these are all subject to individual driver's opinions but I am a bit gutted it has done so badly, will no doubt at least have a small impact on used values. :(

Yes Toyota's quality has dropped dramatically, and when you sit in the car, feeling just isn't great. For example in Finland Corolla was very popular car as it was very practical and handy. Maybe not the best-looking but it was just great for Finns who like big space where they can put all their belongings without thinking where to put all their stuff. New Auris is squeaky and all the plastic surfaces are black + they can be scratched very easily. If you're really using your car, not just getting it out from garage for a little weekend drive, it really gets dirty, scratched and not very good-looking. And all this is more visible than in other cars as the surfaces are black and the quality is poor... There's also some things that they cannot get fixed at Toyota even they try (like brakes or MM-T transmission), and that's what customers hate most, especially when technicians at Toyota get frustrated as they cannot fix the probelms and it affects their customer service...Toyota has lots to improve in the facelift model, and I'm sure many people will agree with me!

Best regards, Alex

Will the Auris be to Toyota what the Allegro was to British Leyland! ;)

Toyota need to get the niggles sorted, and try and keep the current owners happy, and on board. If not once loyal brand followers will go elsewhere.

I bought my Auris TR 2.0D4D on the strenght of previous Toyotas I have had over the years

but I let my Heart lead my head with this one and Toyota have a lot of catching up to do with this model very disappointing

I wonder do anybody at Toyota look at the comments made on these forums and take notice

Not at Finland at least... Their attitude seems to be: "People do write all that they want on the Internet, we're

not supposed to care about it". Once when I had problems with my car, they told me that everything is ok.

When I told them that there's many people even on different forums complaining about this same issue,

their answer was same as above...

Best regards, Alex

ive gotta say fellas i dont no wot u are moaning about. I dont have anything to moan about with the auris apart from the fact that the range counter isnt exactly accurrate but i just use fuelly.com now so i can gauge what i can get mileage wise per tank. The Auris T180 is the best car i have ever had the pleasure of driving (apart from my dads 6 series). Ive driven a CDX yairs, a T3 Corrolla and a XTR rav4, they were my previous vehicles and the corrolla doesnt even come close to my auris. I think what we seem to be doing is comparing the auris to other diesel hatchbacks and saloons that are out there. Some of you have made the observation that the 330d bmw or some of the one series bmw diesel models do more miles to the gallon, are better cars etc but look at what you have to pay for those cars?! The auris sr180 costs just shy of 19k, and if u get the satnav centre console you will pay just over 20k. The 330d bmw costs in excess of 27k and the audis aint exactly cheap either. Also for the same price as what you would pay for the sr180 you will not find at the moment any other diesel hatchback or saloon which can beat its power and co2 emissions. As for the interiors becomming messed up with use thats just rubbish. If you regulary clean and hoover your car as i do you wont get these problems. Im sorry if im having a rant here but so many of you have stated your reasons for not liking the auris and i just cant understand or share your reasons.

I think its problem is it doesn't stand out anymore. Corolla was always bullet proof and practical. Auris could be more practical if it didn't have hard plastics and people are also scoring it low on reliability in that survey for some reason.

Others have ace cards still, VW + interior, Ford + Handling etc. Auris should still be reliable and practical. However i think that ace card has slipped away. I can see where others are coming from.

I don't have the same views as some but i can see their point of view.

I have only had complements from others about the car and I love driving it. I agree there is nothing sexy about it but I am married with kid now.

The only true complaint is the boot could be made easier to fit a large push buggy into. The plastic bits each side of the parcel shelf get in the way and scratch if the parcel shelf is not engaged properly.

Well as I stated previously I am really happy with mine, i think it looks great being a 3dr and SR spec and apart from the squeaking brakes i have had no probs with it. It's easily quick enough for me and I averaged 56.9 mpg on the way to London the other day. One thing I have not been happy with however is when I phoned up toyota for the warranty fix for the brakes (Marsh Exeter) they tried charging me!!! This is totally unacceptable as it is a known problem with a known fix and one of the main reasons I bought the car was down to dealer service. I am going to have a word with the manager when I go in and let them know i'm disappointed.

Auris is falling behind because of all manufacturers Peugeot can build cars with these interiors : http://www.zcars.com.au/images/peugeot-300...r-interior1.jpg

And citreon can build cars that look like the C5

So if toyota can't keep practicaility and reliability their crown is going to slip. They need to step it up a bit, better looking cars in and out, more interior luxury and ensure they can retain reliability then they are sorted. Still i'm happy with my t180 :)

Far from it, the Auris may have faults but so do ALL other cars. To be honest the main problems I have had have been down to poor preparation by the dealer rather than a fault with the car. We do have the odd brake squeak but very rare and does not last, we did have the airbox rattle but could see this was down to the foam tape coming away apart from that nothing to write home about apart from the mpg is not as good as quoted but coming from a CTR the mpg is fantastic. The T180 for me ticks the box's we wanted from the car but the problem I think is people who buy a T/SR180 think because of the Badge and BHP its not a HOTHATCH TDI so are very disappointed this car is a family cruiser not a boyracer town racer!

also the range of engines that the peugot and citroen do are awful, have a look at the 2.7 v6 tdi engine that citroen do, they can only manage to get 160hp and 300 odd nm of torque from it!

Auris is not a good car.The quality is nowhere near where Toyota should be.It seems the tide is turning.Whereas all other manufacturers looked to Toyota in awe at their quality and reliability now Toyota seem to have some catching up to do.

VW and Ford have come on in leaps and bounds even the GM stuff has improved beyond measure. No point in mentioning French junk but the facelift better be an improvement or Toyota will lose even more loyal customers.

i do apologise, the citroen 2.7 v6 diesel does 0-60 in 8.9 seconds, has 208 hp and has 325 ib/ft torque, more obv than the auris 295 ib.ft of torque but still on any of its cars cannot beat the auris's 8 seconds 0-60 time, even the jag cant

Has anyone tested the 0-60mph claim? Jut wondering how accurate it is!

Never tried 0-60, did once in my t-sport compressor but only because 1st gear was nice and long and the suepercharger did a decent job with 1st and 2nd.

Did see on 5th gear that they tried with an array cars, some hot hatches and mx5 and found its almost impossible to get the stated 0-60 times, the mx5 was well down and you get most luck starting in 2nd gear.

no im not a chav so therefore have not tested the 0-60time but there are a few you tube vids of the auris sr180-t180 doing 0-60 in just shy of 8 seconds, like 7.7-7.9 seconds, go look

  • 2 weeks later...

I am not surprised my dads 2002 Toyota it much better quality and he has no problems unlike my Auris it has really put me off buying another Toyota.

Personally think its the best car Ive ever owned. Also probably the fastest and definitely the most economical. It all depends on what you want from a car, Ive had five Toyotas and this one is the best for sure.
