Fuel Economy

Hi,

I've just got a rav4 gx2.0 petrol 95 and i'm trying to improve my fuel economy i do keep the revs low and and try to use the breaks as little as possible, i'm considering removing the drive shaft so that is runs permanant front wheel drive only but i am concerned this will adversly effect the the gearbox

Has anyone tried this before i'm hoping to get an improvement of 5 mpg as i'm only getting about 30mpg. While this would cost nothing to do would i better just changing car

Thanks in advance

Paul

If you're getting 30mpg, then thats pretty good. mpg gets better on longer runs and keeping speed down to 50 - 60. Removing the rear driveshaft won't do much to be honest and will serve to destabilise a car built for 4 wheel drive. The handling will be poorer. The gearbox won't be affected.

If you want a higher mpg, try a pedal cycle. Even my 1.2 Punto only gets 33mpg on town driving.

Or a diesel of some sort then yer maintenance will be higher.
