Verso Very "jumpy" When Cold

Recommended Posts

We have a Verso which is a 57 plate and we are pleased with it apart from one thing. When the engine is cold the car is very jumpy for the first few minutes. Has gone back to the dealership who couldnt find a problem - they made it sound as if it was normal but I dont think that a car made so recently should suffer from this problem. I had a R reg ford escort years ago with an automatic choke and that didnt do it! Any ideas or comment would be very welcome.

Hi

Welcome to the club, could it be the same problem as this thread....

You don't say if it's the petrol or diesel, I have the 2.2 diesel and have to say it is fine and smooth when cold, it is down on power when cold, I drive it nicely until it warms up anyway, but I have had to boot it when cold and it does seem a bit lethargic, maybe the ecu does this to protect the engine...

There is also an ECU reprogramming talked about on here, it's done by Toyota under warranty, usually at service time...

Have you had the car long? Has it just started this?

Hi

Thanks for the reply. We have had the car since October and its petrol and it has done it since we first had it. It only takes a few minutes to warm up and then its fine but every time we drive down our road on our way out we can feel it - it feels as is you have taken your foot off the accelerator for a split second - if that makes sense. But its not a smooth ride for the first few minutes.

Thanks.

If the dealer believes the behavior is standard for the car you have I would ask them if you could test drive a car of the same spec to compare them.
