Oil Change...

HI.

IM NEEDING TO CHANGE THE OIL AND FILTER ON MY STARLET SR.,

I WOULD LIKE ANY TIPS OR BASIC GUIDELINES ON THE EXACT PROCEEDURE...

PARDON MY INEXPERIENCE!!!!

Before you start:

Have 5 litres of the recommended oil,new oil filter, new drain plug washer and a pair of disposable gloves (petrol stations have them at the Diesel pumps).

1- Warm the engine up and switch off.

2- jack the front end up and put it on stands.

3- Remove the oil filler cap.

4- With your "free" gloves on, Remove the sump drain plug and drain the oil into a suitable container and remove the old drain plug washer,when the oil has finished draining - fit new drain plug washer and refit and tighten (do not overtighten as this will split the washer and leak)

5- Remove the old oil filter - it may be very tight - and wipe the contact surface on the engine block to remove any oil/dirt

6- Smear the "o-ring seal" on the new filter with clean engine oil(some people fill the new filter with oil before !Removed! it on but it normally just runs down your arm on the Starlet)and screw the new filter on "one handed" tight.Give the filter a further 1/3rd of a turn to fully tighten.

7- Remove the stands and lower the car.

8- Fill the engine with the correct grade of oil to the max. mark on the dipstick and refit the oil filler cap.

9 - Start the engine and make sure the oil warning light goes out and check for leaks from the filter and drain plug.

10- Switch engine off and check level on dipstick,top up as needed to the max. mark.

11 - Make a note of the date and mileage of the oil change for your records.

12 - Job done,money saved and a Smug look on your face!!!

ps - Prolonged exposure to hot used engine oil is not good for you as it is Carcinogenic - hence the use of disposable gloves.
