Is My Auris Unique?

I have a Auris TR 1.4 Diesel MMT, and when accelarating from standing start I find that the engine goes flat and then picks up speed. This always happens when in Auto mode. Is this common to all models or just mine?

No, you're wrong. Only half of us want that feature, if we all had it we'd

be all the same! :)

Sorry was not my fault, it's just that dieseldrinker had a bad day and was laughing at some guys on this forum who do mod their cars.

He did bring it out also on this topic, so had to answer to him... I don't really know what's the problem with your car. Hope you will find a solution,

I do recommend you to go to Toyota and ask them about it, as I think they can give you more exact answer there by testing your car than we here on this forum :)

Best regards, Alex

Thnks Alex. I should have put my query fairly straight forward to get a faily straight forward answer. My problem is that when I come to a junction which requires you to stop. (one of the most dangerous parts of a road IMHO) when all is clear to proceed my car nearly stalls when pulling out of the junction. Pulling out left with my car is fairly dangerous.but pulling out right is simply hair raising. (not that I have much hair these days!!!)Regards Fred

We, in general on the Toyota forum consider ourselves a helpfull bunch, and when a member asks a question in order to gain help / advice from others, and some one knows the answer they will always help. So i have to say i am a little miffed at your sarcastic reply, i also notice that your location is a " toyota free zone " which leaves me asking the question , just why have you joined the forum, maybe the answer lies in your post ( clown :clown:):ban:

Vip2006 , as Alex has said take your car along to a Toyota Garage and get it checked out

Waitwaitwait, maybe it's not good to go to Toyota. I think I had and do still have this same issue now when you told more about it, but I have to ask this to be 100% sure.

So, I did not quite understand you. When you nearly stop at the junction and then start to accelerate again, does your car:

- start accelerating normally, it just doesn't change to 2nd gear in time as it should?

OR

- there is some kind of lag? You press the throttle pedal but car just lags for a small time (one or two seconds) and starts accelerating only after that?

Don't tell this lot, they'll all want this feature, it will make them different !

I think that he's here because it's too quiet on the Saab forum?:lol:

Alex I am at a junction and when it is clear for me to go, I press the accelerator and the car starts to accelerate and then the engine loses revs and goes flat and after 2/3 seconds the car engine picks up and starts to accelarate.

Ok VIP, everything else is clear now but I don't quite understand this part: "the car starts to accelerate and then the engine loses revs". How fast after you start accelerating it loses revs?

Now I will clear you the situation which I have and which is completely normal. Maybe it will be easier to compare that way. So, when I come to a junction and then start accelerating, the car doesn't start accelerating at that same moment. It has a small lag during which I get the feeling that it's searching for a right gear. This is caused by the automatized clutch which doesn't always work as fast as human's foot and this is one of those situations can be in your car too. This same happens even on fully automatized cars, not on all of them but once when I drove VW with DSG transmission (two clutches) and started to accelerate, there was a small lag between pressing the pedal and the beginning of acceleration... Your problem can be caused also by turbo, I think you have it on your car? If yes, in many turbo cars there's some lags during acceleration. I have some experience about driving a car with turbo and this is what happens: When I press the pedal (not slightly but floor it or nearly floor it, like 3/4 maybe, the car has a small consideration period before it starts accelerating. This is called turbo lag, and it happens even in fast speeds, it happens ALWAYS when you floor or nearly floor your throttle pedal. But it doesn't happen if you press pedal gently.

If you did not understand everything I wrote here are those two things very briefly:

1) it can be clutch of the MM-T car which lags when you try to start accelerating on 1st gear. Speed of acceleration doesn't affect on the situation, the lag is always there.

2) it also can be turbo lag which happens always when you floor/nearly floor your throttle pedal. This happens on all gears on all speeds when you make a quick acceleration.

Dis you find something familiar by reading this text?

Best regards, Alex

Hi Alex. I can understand what you are saying and it could be either of the 2 situations you describe. However I have it in mind that it would appear that fuel starvation may be the culprit together with an underpowered 1.4 cc diesel engine and/or a faulty engine management system.

I will when time permits take it to my dealer, and get their assessment of a dangerous situation

My car experience is that most of my cars have been Mercedes C Class, BMW316i, and I had a Toyota Carina Auto in the 70s which was a grand car and the first automatic I have owned.

I tow a caravan with a Mercedes ML270CDi Auto and have the auris as my 2nd Car and generally am pleased with it. I bought it new in January and I now have to have larger pockets to take the savings accrued with the savings on fuel.

I would post photos of the car if I new how to upload them to the site.

Regards

Fred

I think it's best to take it to the dealer, just in case. It's always good to be sure that there's nothing seriously wrong with your car :)

There's two ways to upload the pictures:

- upload the picture(s) to some server (for example Imageshack.us). You'll have to choose browse, then choose the file(s) from your computer, put mark to resize image and select some size (I'm using 1024x768), then just click host it! After that copy the text from direct link to image -field, go back in message writing window @ ToyotaOwnersClub, click the insert image -button (one of those which are above the window in which you write the message), and then just paste the address in the field which will open after clicking that button. Your image should appear on your message (you can click preview post to ensure that). See the result below:

28442936.jpg

-upload the picture(s) straight on ToyotaOwnersClub. You'll have to click browse button which is below the message writing window (in the right corner). Choose the file(s) from your computer and then click UPLOAD. There will appear a message "Upload successful and is available from the 'Manage Current Attachments' menu" under the message writing window. After that you can open droplist which is above browse/upload buttons you pressed before. You will see your file there and you'll have to click the list of paper with green + sign (insert attachment into text editor). Your file will appear into message writing window. See the result below:

Well, having an Auris like yours, I don't think a plastic surgery would be a must in order to get some hot chicks! a020.gif
