Hi All,

My Rav 4.2 XT3 (2004) appearsnot to have alarm sensors inside the vehicle ???

Should it have sensors ???

If not can you fit them to the Toyota alarm to protect the interior of the vehicle

Thanks

Andy

My old 4.2 had a microwave sensor mounted behind the dash, and possibly a glass break sensor in the rear.

Not sure whether they changed things after the facelift, but I can't see why they should.

I'll PM you a link to the installation instructions for the alarm, which shows the microwave (radar) sensor.

Hi

I have a 2004 XT4 and the microwave movement sensor is a black box to the right of the glove box inside the dash. You can just see the box if you drop the glove box as if you were changing the cabin air filter. (Empty the glove box and squeeze the glove box at the top to release the retaining pegs, and drop down.) If I remember the alarm sensor is about the size of a cigarette packet.

I also came across the glass breakage sensor behind one of the rear plastic panels.

The easiest way to check if you have a motion sensor is to double lock your partner in the car and see if it goes off :-)

Hope this helps

Ian

Those are the ambient light sensors that the lighting ecu uses to determine wether to switch on the driving/dash/interior lights etc [i think]

There was a thread some time ago asking about those little round things and nobody knew at the time I recall. On my my2002 you press the fob twice to set the normal alarm and a third time to disable the interior sensor(s). Have you tried that Andy?

Alarm appears to work well when you open doors but does not pick up any movement in the cabin and this concerns me.

Any Ideas

You could try adjusting the radar sensor sensitivity, but I'd make a note of the adjust screw position before you do. Over sensitive could be just as annoying as no sensitivity.

The sensors at the front of the dash are for;

1/ Sunshine sensor for the climate control (makes adjustments to interior temp if there is direct sunshine).

2/ Light sensor for auto lights if fitted. On my XT4 it is a blank plug.

Hi All

I have had radio out and the heating controls but there does not seem to be anykind of radar box. There would not be enough room behind the radio for it on my 4.2 as the diagram may be from a 4.1 so still non the wiser on the alarm sensors.

Have armed alarm and sat in vehicle and no alarm if you move but all seems to work fine if you open doors !!!!!

Anyone have any other ideas as I have a 4.2 model 2004 xt3

Thanks

Andy

Hi Andy

I had a good look in my records and found the original sales brochure for the Rav4 4.2 I bought in May 2004.

It shows that the microwave interior sensor option was only fitted to XT4's

The XT3 has only a " remote perimeter alarm "

Hope this helps

Hi Andy

To be honest, I am not sure what extra benefit interior sensors are.

If your local hoody decides that he wants to "brick your window" for a bag or GPS, he will accept there is a alarm that may go off and have what's in your glove box in 30 secs anyway.

Most effective deterrent is to leave nothing on show in the car and clean any GPS sucker marks from the windscreen, that together with a "this car is alarmed" sticker is about as good as it gets.

I think it's fair to say that locks and alarms generally only keep honest folk out.
