I can't seem to understand why TRD have not made any performance parts for the Aygo. I know that the aygo isn't much of a performance car but niether is the Prius, Alphard, bB, Ipsum etc.. and yet there still are TRD parts for these cars which in my opinion look silly on some of them. Also TRD is responsible for creating the Aygo Crazy if i'm not mistaken, so why couldn't they also create some parts for the standard aygo while they were at it?

Hopefully maybe someone could tell me the reason for this, that is if there is one.

Is TRD different from TTE ?

Posted

Yes they're different. Also TTE have stopped producing some of the parts if not all for the aygo since last week i sent an email regarding the sport front grille and they told me that it is no longer in production and stocks have finished unfortunately.

It says on the TTE home page:

Message to all our loyal visitors and customers!!!

In the same spirit as the famous TTE products were created, Toyota Motorsport GmbH will be responsible for the development of the new range of genuine Sports Accessories introduced on the European market.

Using the home of the Toyota F1 as development base emphasizes that these products are developed with clear links to motor racing heritage. The range of TTE products will co-exist for the time being on the models which are no longer in production. The new products will bear the Toyota F1 logo to make the link clear where the development has been done.

TTE doesn't produce many actual performance parts. Mainly it's cosmetic stuff, although things like shorter springs can help a bit, even if they have done the odd chip or turbo for some models.

Luckily, now that the iQ is being made and sold in Japan, Blitz, Tein and other top Jap tuners are starting to produce parts some of which may fit the Aygo.

I still can't can't see why TRD shouldn't still produce parts aswell for the Aygo. Made in Japan or made in Europe its still a Toyota.

Also anyone know why TTE has stopped the production for the front sports grille?

And are there any compatible TRD parts from the Vitz or Passo like a sports oil filter, sport thermostat, quick shifter, engine mounts etc..?

It doesn't fit the facelifted models, so there's no real market for them anymore...

Well i gues it's coz of this resection aswell. Nobody tries to stock any parts anymore. Has anyone tried hollowing out the original front grille?

I HAVE seen a pic of a lower grill done that way once, but can't find it anymore.

My car DOES have a DIY lamp-set (DRL's) mimicking the TTE lower grille...

But I left the hexagonal bits as they were for structural integrity with those lights.

And painted chrome/grey:

More over here (in French)...

I would try hollowing it out myself but it seems to difficult to take out the grille without breaking anything on the bumper. I'll leave it how it is for now but will deffinetly change it when i change the exhaust manifold.

Now back to TRD. The sports oil filter for the vitz/yaris is said to be applicable to all vitz models, so that means its applicable to the 1.0l engine i think. Would anyone be able to find out if it may also fit the aygo? I tried asking the people at the Toyota parts dealer but they don't seem to really know anything.

Taking off the bumper is only about 10 minutes of work: 5 big screws alon the bottom, 3 bolts and a plastic fastener

underneath the bonnet, two plastic screw-like thingies in the wheelarches and a couple of clicked bits on either side...

The grille is clicked onto the bumper from within and can be removed with a flat screwdriver and some patience.

I've removed the bumper a couple of times already its removing the grille from the bumber which i'm scared of :( coz i might break a clip or something. I'll try remove it anyway this summer and hollow it out.

Both the bumper and the grille are made out of relatively

soft plastic, so the little lips can stand quite some abuse.

Just be patient and you'll be just fine...

I've had a look on the english part of the TRD website and the TRD Sports Oil Filter WILL NOT fit our Aygo's. If you click on the Sports Oil Filter link then it will give you 3 different oil filter part numbers (depending on which engine your car has)

Part Number: 90915-SP000

Vitz/Yaris Fitment: NCP91, NCP95, SCP90

Engine Applications: 2SZ-FE (1.3i), 1NZ-FE (1.5i - not sold in the UK)

Now yes there is a listing for a TRD oil filter for the 1.0i Yaris Mk. 1 however they had 4-cyl one litre engines (1SZ-FE) as opposed to our 3-cyl engines (1KR-FE)

So if you're looking for performance parts for your engine then try looking at parts for other cars with the same engine: -

Daihatsu Sirion (2005 onwards)

Toyota Yaris/Vitz (2005 onwards)

Scion iQ (whenever that gets released in America)

Subaru Justy (2008 onwards)

Performance parts for our cars will be few and far between (as the car is only 4 or so years old) - also try looking for Citroen C1 or Peugeot 107 Mechanical Parts...

But as far as performance oil filters go, there are none availablie for our engine and i don't see them becoming available... UNLESS you go to see K&N in Warrington to discuss developing an oil filter for our engines however i highly doubt they'll do such a thing
