Hi, I have seen that the Aygo is excempt from the London Congestion charge, but how do you go about not having to pay?

My phone call today to Tfl made me none the wiser and £8 poorer as they told me that I had to pay as the car was not registered! This would cost £10, take 10 days and that I could look on the www.powershift.co.uk site to find out more. But there was nothing there!! Has anyone found out yet what exactly is required?

Thank you

Who says it is exempt? If it's not TFL it probably isn't.

There was a proposal to exempt cars in the lowest tax bands, but IIRC this was scrapped when Boris took over.

At the moment only dual fuel and electric vehicles are exempt.

TFL website will have more info.

Ken was going to boost the cost to the bigger cars to £25 a day, and make the small city cars exempt from the charge. One of the big Boris pledges was to scrap the £25 charge which also meant the end of the free pass to small cars.

These are the pages from the TFL website

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/congestioncharging/6741.aspx

Who pays what

If you pay the charge on the day of travel you pay £8.

If you pay the charge on the first charging day after travel you pay £10.

If you do not pay the charge by the end of the first charging day after your journey you will be subject to a Penalty charge.

Some vehicles qualify for discounts and exemptions.

Fleet vehicles, if registered through a Fleet account, pay £7.

And the discounts and exemptions page...

Toyota are of course fully aware of the rules and provide a 4x4 that has exemption in the Lexus RX400h punting out 192g/km of CO2 and a large saloon LS600h with a 0-60 of 6.3 seconds and CO2 figures of 219g/km. And that is how you make a mockery of congestion charges.

Yep, and while your at it, add another runway at Heathrow which will have no enviromental impact at all and will reduce overall CO emissions..............yer.......right on, whatever :lol:
