Max Tow Weight Rav4 D4d

Hi, I'm sure this topic has been covered ad-nauseam, but just wondering what the max tow weight my 2003 D-4D Xt-3 Diesel (115 bhp) is capable of.

I just put a deposit on a 3rd hand Boat, a shetland family four, which I estimate weighs (inc Trailer & Engine) somewhere in the region 1200-1300kg.

I have a quick release hitch fitted.

Will it cut the mustard?

Kerbweight 1485kg

Max tow weight 1500kg

Noseweight 75kg

Arguably the best 4x4 driving experience, the RAV4 handles bends and poor surfaces brilliantly. The cabin is suited to four people. The detachable towbar prevents opening the rear door, though.

General advice when towing is that the trailer etc should be a max of 85% of the vehicle kerb weight.

So 1260 is the recommended max (assume it's a braked trailer).

As Kingo says, you can tow more than this but the 85% rule means that the tow vehicle is in charge of the outfit and not the other way round.

Thanks, called Toyota who said the same, hopefully its just within the 85% bracket, but I will get a more accurate trailer weight shortly, & must remember not to load up the boat too much.
